| Re: Morning Sickness | | I found a couple of things that worked for me (and worked for other people that I know):
1. Never let your stomach get empty. As hard as it is when you feel bad, try nibbling on a cracker, taking sips of Ginger Ale, anything to make sure your stomach has something in it. ICE COLD Pepsi really seemed to help my stomach for some reason.
2. Get some ginger into your system. Ginger Ale (that truly has a hint of ginger in it), ginger candies and any other way you can get ginger into you will help. Ginger really helps to calm stomachs.
I hope perhaps one of these will help! |

 | Re: Morning Sickness | | I was going to suggest ginger as well. Ginger Ale helps, and so does pickled ginger (like what you have with sushi) if you like that. Another drink that I found helped was 7UP. It's not as syrupy as Sierra Mist or even Sprite, but the carbonation helps settle your stomach.
I've heard cinnamon does something for nausea. And I had a friend who kept crackers by her bed so she could eat some as soon as she woke up.
Good Luck!! |

I also stopped using commercial toothpastes when my stomach would be upset, and use baking soda instead so that I wouldn't feel nauseated by the taste of the toothpaste.
It took me a while to think back because my twins are in their 30's now and I am 51. I remember being nauseous for most of the pregnancy, though. |

 | Re: Morning Sickness | | I agree with you SageMother. A pinch of salt really helps and sometimes I drink hot water with a pinch of salt mixed on it. |

 | Re: Morning Sickness | | Oh, bless your heart ~ I feel your pain. I didn't have "morning sickness" with my second child ~ I had "all day sickness" and there was nothing I could do or take that would make me feel better. The only comfort I can give you is that it WILL pass and you WILL feel better and it WON'T last your whole pregnancy . |

 | Re: Morning Sickness | | Ditto to TraceyW's reply! I too, had "all day sickness" for many weeks during my first trimester. I eventually learned that if I just got up and went on with my day, I either forgot about it or it would finally pass. I found that if I stayed in bed or layed around all day trying to nurse my "sickness", it wouldn't seem to get any better. (Please keep in mind this was on the weekends and this is my first pregnancy! No other little ones to run after just yet , My best advice is to try and push thru it. Remember that it won't last forever and in the big picture it is sooo worth it! Hang in there! |

| Re: Morning Sickness | | I agree with the others, ginger ale is a Godsend when you're pregnant. Thankfully I didn't have the "all day" morning sickness, and it was over relatively quickly. Here's to hoping you'll be able to find what's right for you, and that it'll all be over soon. |

| Re: Morning Sickness | | I actually found a couple of things that helped. The first was tart citrus like lemonade, grapefruit, etc. The second was ginger beer as opposed to ginger ale. It's non-alcoholic despite its name and can be found at a lot of health food stores. The content of actual ginger is much higher than in ginger ale so it soothes your stomach more. Candied ginger worked the same way. |

  | Re: Morning Sickness | | You bring back memories. I was sick all the time, too, and throwing up everything. I actually lost 18 pounds and eventually had to be hospitalized.
For me, nothing worked. I tried everything I could come up with. I kept eating because it was important for my baby, but everything I ate just came back up.
The only thing I can really say for anybody who has severe morning sickness is that when your baby is born you'll never regret. I'd do it all over again for her. (She's 14 now.)
For less severe morning sickness, remember that it will pass. You'll also probably find some of the above suggestions helpful if your morning sickness is not so severe. |
