The baby was born at 8:51 this morning!

He was 9 lbs 7oz - my biggest baby to date! (surro baby #2 was 9.6)
21 inches long and 14 inch head

I woke up at 6:30 to my two dogs barking at the UPS truck - and it wasn't long after that the contractions started. I tracked them for a half hour and called my midwives, and not long after I called W. the rest of my crew. (All included - there were 9 people present, other than me)

I walked and squatted, and it seemed to last a long time - then I went into my room and got on my side to push. It was frustrating, not like my normal labors. While pushing felt better, I wasn't feeling much progress with them. I got up and squatted on my knees for a few contractions - then laid down on my right side and began pushing again.

I was doing a lot more of the work than the uterus was, and as a result my back is REALLY achey right now. Finally, I felt the movement downward begin, and I pushed into it. It was amazingly slow - baby's head just easssssssssed on out. About halfway through, the contraction died off, and I caught my breath and pushed him out the rest of the way myself. It wasn't quick, but the midwives were impressed and happy that I stretched slowly.

He is beautiful - gave one lusty cry and hasn't cried since. He's been so contented, quiet, alert (looking around 10 minutes after birth), and absolutely glorious.

Great picture. By looking at the picture, I would have guessed days or weeks old, not hours. I guess it has been a while for me.

What happens next?

We hang out for a few days for the legal waiting period to pass. (and my Intended Father was present for the birth and got to catch the baby - so he's here with us)

I submit the birth certificate paperwork with public health tomorrow, and we fill out a denial of paternity for DH. (my state automatically puts my husband on the BC - even if he isn't the genetic parent)

Then we go before the judge and I revoke my parental rights, and after that W & J do the step parent adoption. Thats usually done separately, but because J had to stay behind, our lawyer pulled some strings and we're going to do it in one session with J on the phone. (our lawyer is fantastic! I've been working with her for 8 years)

Once all thats done - then W goes home with baby!

Kaytee,

Oh no - this is nothing but a joy. I really don't have any difficulty sending him home with his parents - who are in absolute bliss.

Oh I am sure the joy is so overwhelming. But yo don't even feel a bit sad to see him go? I'm sure you are used to the "he is not mine but theirs" kinda feelings, but I think I would still feel a little sad to see them go. Again I am sure the joy of giving them a child is so over powering that it trumps that.

I know I'm lucky to be a surrogate without regrets. Like I've mentioned, I known several who have had difficulty - either in small doses like you suggest, or overwhelming floods of emotion.

Maybe it helps that I'm really really done with having my own kids. DH only wanted two kids - I really wanted three. We went round and round about it for a long time, and eventually we came to a creative solution.

After my DD was born, there really was a spiritual completeness deep inside of me - and DH had the 'elective surgery.' The only time I've EVER entertained the idea of having another baby was after Lydia died, and we didn't know if W & J were going to want to try again.

This birth truly completes a circle for me. I can't tell you how fulfilling and *important* this surrogacy has been for me. I've never had any twinges when it came time for my surro kids to go home - but this one in particular is a real blessing.
