I'd be more worried if he wasn't scared. That would mean that he didn't understand the mass amount of responsibility that comes with having a child.

It is normal for parents to be scared before birth, during birth, after birth, first dentist appointment, first day of school, first crush, first date, first day driving, first day of college, marriage, grand-children...basically until the day we die. Anything else wouldn't be natural.
