Children: 3 (Very) Darling Daughters - Christina (18 yrs.), Kelly (16 yrs.) and Amy (7 yrs.) | What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | Looking back, I have so many funny stories about delivering my kids. Most of them center around how little I knew about how things worked. And I honestly consider myself fairly intelligent.
I think the biggest shock I had (with my first) was that when your water breaks, it's not a one-time thing. I was about 4 weeks early with her and it broke in the middle of the night (in bed). I got up and went to the phone (freaking out, of course) and then proceeded to get amniotic fluid on both living room chairs and the couch, before I realized that every time I sat down, I was gonna do it. It would stop when I stood, but as soon as I sat down, it would start leaking again. It's definitely one of those things that I wished (at the time) someone had mentioned previously.
What things were "learning experiences" for the rest of you? Even though I'm not having any more kids of my own, I thought it might be a way to share some tips with some of the ladies who are currently expecting their first. |

Children: 4yo girl 1yo boy | Re: What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | My pregnancy was textbook but, I wish I could have really wrapped my head around how much your body can swell from fuild retention and that you will probly still look pregnant for a few months AFTER the baby is born. It only lasts nine months so enjoy every kick and pain it goes by soooo fast. |

Children: Nichole | Re: What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | Not a lot of shockers for me. I had morning sickness all day every day from about 9 weeks till about ummmmm 42 weeks!!! I puked at least 4 times a day. Pregnancy was a great weight loss drug for me as well. Lost about 10 pounds in the beginning and ended up only gaining about 25 total.
My labor was super duper short and I wish I would have not gotten the epidural because it was so short.
I will not get one next time. I also wish I would have stood up for myself more and told the hospital to give me my kid back. They would take her for a few hours every day! Drove me batty. Not again! |

 | Re: What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | I was surprised when they handed me this kid who'd been in my belly so long and I was not instantly smitten. He was red and ugly and I didn't recognize him. It turns out I'm not so much an infant mom - I'm happiest when they turn about 18 months, but of course i didn't know that then. It also didn't prevent me from having more! |

Heh - and no one really talks about the poop. |

 | Re: What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | Hello everyone! I'm new hehe.. Well I was very surprised the first time I had my daughter ( i was 17) when the nurse handed me a mirror, I did not know what the heck its for lol, and the nurse told me if i wanted to watch myself give birth! That was too overwhelming for me to see myself at the time.. not a very good site. But for some women, it doesn't bother them. But its just not me I guess lol . Oh yea, I didn't for get bout Mr. poopyhead haha. Can't forget what my husband looked liked when he saw that hehehe |

 | Re: What Surprised You Most About Delivering? | | I was surprised at how painful the whole thing was. I went into L&D completely naive, thinking that all women overexaggerate the pain. Yeah right! It was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life.
