Children: 4yo girl 1yo boy | Bizzaro World | | After reading many of the topics on this forum I feel like my parenting ideas are completely foreign. I am a strick parent. I dont agree with how "sexy" childrens clothing has become. I have to search to find conservitive clothing for my 4yo daughter. She just moved to a size 6. Plus these brats dolls....I don't know. I want her to have her innocents as long as she can. We don't shelter her, we talk about why those things are innappropriate. She's 4 she's not stupid. We are parents not our childrens friends. |

I agree I have been known as a prude in some aspects of parenting. I think it is repulsive that they make string bikinis for toddlers or sport bra looking outfits for halloween costumes. Bratz dolls? Well as my good friend said "they come with an STD in every box": |

Children: Brian, 22; Adrienne, 18: Amy, 15 | Re: Bizzaro World | | I'm also a pretty stict parent. I have rules about the clothes my children are allowed to wear, and don't buy anything I find inappropriate. Bratz dolls? Never made them a big issue. We have about four dozen of them, but my girls knew that DOLLS have no say in the rules for this house, just as friends have no say. Oh, and no clothes with words on the rear end, either! LOL

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: Bizzaro World | | I should clearify, I hate Brats dolls BUT my dd has a few mom approved Brats Kids doll and a Brats horse. She has a few things that she does to help me around the house and she earns money to but things she wants. She had really been wanting the dolls and I took her to the store and we looked them together. We talked about why it is that certian dolls aren't allowed right now and I helped her choose some that came from the Kids line of brats dolls and weren't dressed so well, ya know. I won't keep her from having the dolls but I will monitor which ones she has until she is old enought to understand that isn't how girls should really look. I pretty much agree with you Teresa, although at her age I still like to keep an eye on which ones she picks. If she's still into them in a few years than I won't worry quite so much, like you said DOLLS don't make the rules

 | Re: Bizzaro World | | I don't have daughters but I do agree about the clothes. I think one of the items I don't care for that other's don't seem to be bothered by would have to be the pants with the writing on the butt. To me that is drawing the eye to an area to be honest if I had a daughter I would not want someone drawn to. Also I am not fond of the Brat's dolls in the least. I feel the clothes and makeup make them appear trashy. |

*thumbs up*
I wish more parents would be like that. Even with boys and violent and sexual video games and movies. Sometimes parents just allow anything it seems without really analyzing the impact of such things. |

 | Re: Bizzaro World | | My girls had Barbies....anatomically correct dolls.....trolls and all the other objectionable fads of the 1990's. I didn't like the clothing....but sometimes it was all there was.
The oldest is a Radiation Therapist. The Youngest has an MBA and runs a corporation at 23.
TRUST ME...it's not the clothing. It's not the toys. It's not what music they listen to or movies they see. Their friends don't even matter all that much in the grand scheme.
It's YOU.
The things you say, the way you behave and the amount of time you spend just holding them and talking.....THAT is what counts.
Parents matter more than anything else. |
