 | Re: Child Rape No Longer A Capital Offense | | Been reading about the girl missing from Vermont. Her uncle is a person of interest and suspected in her disappearance. According to news reports, he was convicted of kidnapping. Another girl has come forward alledgedly accusing this same man of sexually assaulting her. If this poor innocent child has suffered any ill will at the hands of this monster, what punishment is enough? What is innocence worth? What is a life worth? What about a life not yet lived? |

And just to play devil's advocate a bit, there is far more than just molestation that can take a child's innocence. I'm by no means downgrading the devastating effects that molestation or rape can have on an adult life, even worse for a child. But there are so many things these days that take a child's innocence that we as parents sometimes allow into our homes.
Violent movies....Makes a child realize that peace is something nice and something pretty, but doesn't exist in this world. Thereby losing the innocence of tranquility.
Sexual inuendos in movies, videos, commercials....Makes a child realize that society doesn't view you as worthy unless you have sex appeal. Thereby losing the innocence of purity.
Child abuse ....Makes a child realize that there are some people who should just not be parents. Thereby losing the innocence of unconditional love without the risk of violence.
I think child molesters are some of the "worst" people out there. But I think that our world around us is just as guilty as stealing our children's innocence as a child molester. Society just does it a bit more subtly.

To be honest, if someone raped or raped and murdered or murdered another i think it is the public decision after a trail to what happens to this person. Hense trail, and jury's and judges decisions.
You can't always leave major problems and people up to the Faith of a god. In my opinon, if faith is such a huge factor, let god deal with them now rather then 60 years down the road. |

And in any sense, my devils advocate role wasn't about God. That was just an answer to the previous poster. It was about our children's innocence being stolen by more than just child molesters. Why do we allow the media, the schools, other humans steal our children's innocence? And why do we not view them just as bad as child molesters? Child molestation and rape is a terrible, horrific thing. But our kids' innocence and purity are stolen every day by "normal" things and we don't bat an eye.
