But while the whole act, even the very idea that someone could do this to another person sickens me, my advocating the death penalty will not do anything. It will not bring back my child's innocence that was stolen after a rape or molestation. It will not bring back my child's life if they were murdered after a rape or molestation. The only thing it will do is keep them away from other humans so it doesn't happen again, and that can happen in prison.
I wish I could tell you 100% that it's easy to trust the Lord in serious, traumatic situations like this. But it's not. It's not easy to trust Him in the small things, let alone something like this. But, God forbid, should this ever happen to my children, I know I can trust Him to bring me and mine through it. Is it going to be hard? Yep. Will I want to kill the piece of scum myself? You betcha. But will it make it any easier (honestly, now, guys) to deal with myself and request the death penalty, will it erase my child's pain and restore their innocence? No way.
I just think it's sad we have to deal with stuff like this in the first place.

But please understand that is so different. To someone who has been raped and brutalized, reading rulings like this is like being raped all over again. It's like feelings the man's weight on top of you all over again. It's like being able to smell him, and taste that fear. All. Over. Again. So although I know you did make it clear you weren't negating the fact that some people have been violated this way, still, it is SO not the same thing as society robbing our children of their innocence IMO. So. Not. The. Same. |
I know it's not the same. I've been molested. I've been raped twice. I know the horror of dealing with the difficult emotions and trauma. I know what it's like to have nightmares every night of the horrible incident. I know what it's like to not trust a single male face. I know what it's like to constantly look over my shoulder. I know what it's like to never let myself be alone with a man, especially one I do not know.
My point was simply we need to get this mad about everything stealing our children's innocence. Yes, molestation or rape is probably the most horrific. But so is everything else, if you sit and think about it. Not quite to the degree, but anything that forces our children to grow up before they should is an atrocity.

I've been through some horrific things in life that people should never, ever have to go through. There are some nasty, vile, disgusting people in this world.
But the answer, really, was given in your last paragraph. I know it's not fair to have to go through stuff like this. But everything I've ever gone through in life just reminds me how I have to trust Him. He takes care of it all in the end.
Now, I think I'm going to lay back down for an hour until my girls get up. I just got Jack off to work and have truck day at work myself at 2 (yay, I get to pull 1500 boxes off and shove the heavy things down the conveyer belt while in the hot, scalding sun in my sunburn to 3 men who get to sit in the air conditioned backroom and simply take them off the belt and stack them) Didn't sleep real well last night, so I'm gonna try to get another hour in.
Thanks for the 'chat' Mindy.

I don’t believe in the death penalty either, but seriously, then what do you do in certain cases? Really? In NYC the other day, a real piece of dog crap was found guilty of the 19 hour torture and rape of a young woman. This scum, sodomized her, poured bleach on her, slit her eyelids, tried to get her to cut her own throat and then did it himself and then set her apartment on fire, lucky for her in a sense, she used the fire to burn through her restraints and saved her life, but what kind of life does she have now? How in hell do you get over this?? Does this piece of crap deserve to live? DPHe did not even bother to come to court for the verdict, when told by a CO, he rolled over and went back to sleep! There are people like this in the world. Lots of them. So do we just trust that God will take care of it? Because God is a forgiving God and if that man is truly sorry for what he did, then God will forgive him! At least that’s how I understand it. So what, just keep the guy in jail til he dies? Does he deserve that? A warm place to sleep everynight? Probably in solitary so others don’t kill him? And I often hear people say they don’t believe in the Death Penalty but if the person happened to get murdered in prison they would be ok with that. I just wish there were easy answers for this stuff. I believe in Karma so that part of me says just let it come back around to him, but another part of me thinks men like this are evil. Will not even call them animals because that would be an insult to animals.
| Impossible to say what kind of life she will have now....that depends on her and her attitude. She may or may not get over it, and she may or may not move on with her life....it will be her choice.
Does her assailant deserve to live? Again, not my call. Only God knows that. And yes, if he repents sincerely, then he'll be forgiven and will go to Heaven. That, to me, is part of the joy of loving the God I love...no matter how badly we screw up, he's willing to forgive us if we are truly repentant. Otherwise, NONE of us would ever get into Heaven.
So yes, I say keep him in prison for the rest of his life, until God is finished with him.

To answer the question of "What do you do?"
I don't believe that we should spend our tax dollars keeping these people alive, I think they should basically be disposed of.
