Default Dealth Penalty Yea or Nay?

I'm more of an "Eye for an Eye" kinda girl when it comes to criminals. I think if we put more people to death it would actually come across as a punishment. Criminals spend more tax dollars then some make in a year sitting on their a** in prison. They get breakfast lunch and dinner, free medical care and cable tv.

Good topic. I'll add my opinion at some later time.

Certain crimes deserve the death penalty, in my opinion. Crimes against children and whenever public service officers (i.e. police, firemen, etc.) are murdered; the person committing those crimes do not deserve to live. I don't think a life sentence is enough justice for those individuals.

jtee-
That's twice you've done that to me. Does that mean you'll be disagreeing again?

1dayatatime, my intent is to allow others to have their say first. Somebody might state a simular opinion, therefore I don't need state mine. When I posted my first message, I had not yet read your message, just the thread title.

if you kill someone you get killed back, its only fair. and if you scar someone for life, as in child molestation, or rape, you should be killed. its only fair. short and sweet thats my opinion

It's not that simple. I'm against violence as much as the next person, but I also feel like we don't have the authority to say you should die. They may be guilty, but I believe that we will all be judged one day and God is the final judge.

I lean more towards this as well. However it does get trickier with me when it comes to people who do cruel things to children. Such as murder and rape. Then even when someone comes along that I think does not deserve to live, what happens when they are proven innocnet 10 years later? It happens often.

Under specific circumstances - pre meditated murder, I believe these people should be put to death under the same circumstances that surrounded their victim. Any crimes against children, I feel the same way.

The problem is "beyond any reasonable doubt" is such a difficult argument to win - people have spent millions of dollars hiring the right attorneys to argue their case as their expert story tellers - great at creating even the slimmist of doubt.

What I find most frustrating about the judicial system is all of the loop holes created by fancy lawyering that end up freeing criminals. When actual evidence can be thrown out of court because it was obtained illegally - which allows a lesser sentence - or lets someone go free - it's just mind boggling. The evidence should speak for itself. How do these lawyers live with themselves knowing they assisted a guilty person go free on a technicality?

In cases where a criminal is tried and convicted and sent to death row - there should be one appeal available. After that, it is only wasting tax payers money and making a mochery of what is left of our judicial system.
