I like your ideas

What exactly are 'timeouts'. Is this an american term? Sounds like when you have a period to 'cool off' or 'learn from your mistake'.

From the age of going to school, the child learns him/herself by facing 'it'.

More like a period where they sit in the corner and realize that behaving is a better than sitting in a corner being bored for 5 minutes. I doubt my 4 year old learns anything from it :-P

You don't give your 4 year old credit then.

Well I always ask him when he gets out, "why were you in the corner?"

So I'm sure on some level he does reflect on things. But a lot of the time when I look over there, he's laying on his back with his feet in his air...or playing with make believe toys. Hard to imagine him reflecting on anything when he's doing that.

well, i can't really relate to your discipline and punishment styles since i am raising teenagers. what i do with my kids is that involve them during the process of setting the consequences if they will do something wrong. in that case, they will not complain or get mad about it.

I guess I was an evil mom...stuff like that got the timer re-started on my kids. Time out, the few times I used it as a consequence, was for doing nothing but sitting...any sort of playing negated the time to that point.
