Children: 4yo girl 1yo boy | Robbing the Cradle | | So I was just watching this show, "Secret Lives of Women" the episode was called "Robbing the Cradle". It was about female sex offenders. There was one family, church going, that had a 13yo son that they let go to the movies and hang out with a 27 yo woman. The woman got a slap on the wrist in court. She also had a baby with the young man. (Probably why she got a slap on the wrist) Anyway, I'm so mad, I feel like the parents are just as guilty as the woman. Would they have let the 13yo daughter hang out with a 27yo man? I think not. No accountablity totally agravates me. BTW thats a really good show.

Children: Son-8 yrs old, 2 Daughters- 7 and 4 yrs old | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | Wow I couldn't imagine...I would think that boy is missing so much of his childhood by having a baby and being with a woman so much older than he is. He can't take her to any dances, he won't have many, if any, friends his age. I just couldn't let that happen to my son, nephew, cousin (any kid I knew and had influence on). I don't think it would happen at all if it were a 13 yr old girl. So sad that the parents think its ok.

Children: Brian, 22; Adrienne, 18: Amy, 15 | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | ITA that the parents should have been held accountable. What were they thinking? If some 27 year old was wanting to hang out with my 13 year old, no matter the genders, I would have some serious issues, and I'd be putting my foot down in one big hurry. Once my kid is 18 or older, I don't care about the age difference (seeing as how DH is 18 years older than I am!!), but before that, anything over 2 yrs difference is going to raise my radar.

Children: Delaney, 4 years old | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | It's an unfortunately reality in our society that men and women are held to different standards. Had the genders been reversed, the man would have been in prison, as the vast majority of states have a sexual consent age of 15 or above (Ohio is 16, where I'm from). Unless the woman is a teacher, it's not surprising that she got nothing more than a very light sentence. If a 27 year old man is having sex with a 13 year old girl, he's a pedophile. If a 27 year old woman is having sex with a 13 year old boy, she made a mistake in judgement. I'm not sure what the difference is. She really should have been held to the same accountability as anyone else, baby or not. |

Children: Brian, 22; Adrienne, 18: Amy, 15 | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | Age of consent applies to both male and female, so your logic in using that against only the man is faulty. The woman would be breaking the same law of having a relationship with a minor under the age of consent.

Children: One boy 8, twin girls 7. | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | I think the 27 year old should be evaluated for some issues. The thirteen year old needs a wake up call and the parents need parenting classes and to sit in on some pedophile classes. |

Children: I have one daughter, Lyric. | Re: Robbing the Cradle | | *Agrees* Wow. Reading something like this just pisses me off. I'm a senior in high school, and generally you mix and match with various grade levels. But I would never think of having a sexual relationship with one of my Freshman friends. Because #1, I'm graduating, heading off to college, and they're young, kind of innocent in a way that they haven't yet reached the point of life where they are all they have. #2, I have a 20 month old daughter. #3, it's illegal. I mean, I understand that love is love. If you love somebody, that's that. But at an age as young as 13, the idea of love is a distortion, an uncertainty, a fairy tale in which you want to unfold, look inside, and get out. Man, OR woman, adults have responsibilities, and you have to understand that there are certain things which just should not be done. Sorry for ranting, but it just makes me mad! |
