Although, it's not my thing.. I have no problem with polygamy or communal marriage if they are arrangements where everyone involved WANTS to be there. Why can't adults live with and love any adult(s) they want?

I was actually pretty surprised when I pulled up the news yesterday and saw that they were deciding this. I didn't even realize it was up for discussion at this time.

Because those adults will eventually have children and that is when the problem begins. Not because of sexual abuse to the children, but because if those children would grow up with not clear roles of who the mother, father, and traditional family is, they would have a hard time adjusting to the rest of society.

I wish I had the name of a documentary I saw a while ago, where they interviewed adults and children who lived in those hippies communities back in the 60's. They all said it was damaging for them. Many of those children came out with severe psychological problem, and identity crisis.
All of the women who were interviewed said that it was damaging for them, and the experience lowered their self steem.
We tried those things already and it didn't work.

We are forgetting about something else. It would cost tax payers millions of dollars.
Think about this, if they are legally married, they can apply for benefits for their spouses.That includes dissability, retirenment, and everything else.

Our social security system is in really bad shape as it is, can you imagine having to pay additional benefits to millions of people more? (right now if the partner dies or become dissable, they can't qualify for benefits under their partner, but if they are married, they could)

I believe they deserve what everyone else gets
I can tell you that growing up with a lesbian mother and her girlfriend, was fine for me. Now later on other issues made her not a good mother, but as far as her relationship with her lover went, it was normal life. I still knew it was different hten what others had but so be it

This is partly why I am against gay marriage. I've said it again and again and again on the forum. It opens dangerous doors.

This is a really self centered, egotistical way of thinking. "Can you imagine..." Can I imagine what? Treating others like human beings? Giving them the same rights I have? Straight people are no better and NO more worthy of these benefits. What I have trouble imagining is why same sex couples are NOT allowed these benefits?

yeah - b/c I know gay marriages are behind my split family! Behind all of the blended families you see on this website. Behind all of the international adoptions, interracial couples... the face of family has been changing for a very, very long time (in some ways for the better, in some ways unfortunate) and it has nothing to do with allowing gay marriages.

what "dangerous doors" are being opened? A marriage is still a commitment between 2 people - what difference does their sex make?

10 reasons why Gay marriage is wrong:
01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
