I was going to apathetically vote for McCain because there's no better option, but I'm feeling really good right now. He not only picked a very strong fiscally responsible conservative who's willing to go against the party when they're wrong, he picked a strong fiscally responsible conservative woman. As a conservative woman I'm proud and hopeful. I think she's a great role model and makes a wonderful leader.
I went to donate and they're being overloaded.
Good for him!

| Re: Sarah Palin as VP? | | A lot of my friends at high school were cracking over the fact that she's Alaskan and a woman (these were my female friends too), saying that John McCain was just trying to pull a Cindy, and he'd dug himself into a hole because of all his previous rants against inexperience.
I admit that I was extremely incredulous over the decision and thought of it as completely ridiculous. However, I love Palin's reputation as a reformer and a fighter in what she believes in without giving sway to what seems good at the time but really isn't. That's really important, and government really needs that right now. Additionally, she's a wonderful orator.
Even though I lean left, I do agree with most of her policies (yay NRA!). Just not the super pro-life stance - I am pro-choice in certain situations. So overall, I found that I did like her (not to mention that she's gorgeous - I want to look like that in middle age!), though I think McCain's move was rather risky. It can work well, or it can utterly fail.
If I could vote though, I'd still go with Obama/Biden because overall, I agree with their stances moreso than McCain/Palin. But don't get me wrong - I still find myself liking Palin a lot.

I saw it as funny that he choose a woman, with young children, and very inexpierienced as far as a national level goes. At first my thought was "great he is picking someone to offset the whole Clinton thing" But I have read up on her and think he did pick the best choice for what he needs to possibly win the election.
I however do not like McCain, It is so deep rooted in me that even though I really like Palin's record and stances, I will still vote Obama, even though his running mate is not my first choice.
I guess as time goes on and the election ebbs and flows, I could change my mind, I am a liberal democrat at heart (California girl) but I live in one of the reddest states out there.

Children: First boy born Feb 7, 2008 | Re: Sarah Palin as VP? | | I think John McCain is a pretty reasonable, smart guy but he didn't have the full support or enthusiasm of his party (specifically, the evangelical religious right and other groups like the NRA) and he's lacking in charisma. He also has to distance himself from Bush to appeal to the wider population. He really was in a bind. Palin is a good fit because she reigns in the religious right and gun enthusiast. Also, being a woman, she might be able to attack the hell out of the oposition and get away with it a little more. I reckon she'll have two jobs in this election campaign:
1. Attack the hell out of the democrats and Obama, leaving McCain to play 'good cop'.
2. Appeal to the hard-core right of the GOP, allowing McCain to distance himself from them and make a bipartisan pitch. She doesn't have to do much to accomplish that. The right are all lined up behind her already.
Actually, I think this recent speech that she delivered says a lot:
She seems to be completely guided by religion and she seems to believe in an interventionalist AMERICAN God.
Personally, I think that religion and State should not be combined and I think that secularism is one of the great things about the U.S. (Of course Bush has been hammering away at secularism for 8 years, but that's beside the point). Some other concrete things that bother me personally are:
-Her opposition to gun control
-Her opposition to the right to choose to have an abortion
-Her opposition to homosexual issues
-Her sceptisism of science (Eg. Arguing that human activity is not contributing to global warming)
-Her stance toward the environment (Eg. arguing to allow unfettered oil drilling in protected areas, arguing against including polar bears on the endangered species list, pushing for culling of wolves to increase hunting populations of moose and caribou)
Ironically, they seemed to be going after some Hillary Clinton supporters but the difference between Palin and Clinton is stark!!

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: Sarah Palin as VP? | | until this election starts focusing on actual political issues that really effect this nation I am torn as to how I feel about either of these candidates or their running mates. I will be following this closely...each side is either too far right or too far left for my personal taste so I will have a lot to think about in the next couple of months

How about the fact that at times she had no clue what Charlie was talking about. I like her when he announced her and looked into her a little, but that interview was the biggest turn-off, if we didn't think that McCain was a little Bushesqe in his thought process, we sure do know!
