Or maybe you are talking about the right one and they're illegal to anyone under 16 over there..which would really surprise me but then again there's a million things I don't know lol..
As for the sole topic in this thread, I think yay..there's no issue with toy guns in my home, and my son has known for years that real guns make people go "bye bye" forever..but I agree, the threat of violence is all in the parenting! Quote:

We have cap guns, I can't think what we call them here, they are the only type of gun that doesn't require a license in the UK but most shops wont sell them to anyone under 16. | |

I had one like that, so i know what i say.
i wouldn't like my boys having "toys" like that | Well, in America, airsoft guns don't kill infants! And who would shoot an infant anyways, airsoft or not?!?!?!?!
In any event, back to the thread topic. This is a sensitive topic. I think that if you are ready to let your kid play with guns, they should take a gun safety class and learn about what guns are, what they do, what their purpose is and the harm they can potentially cause.

Cap gun toy.
You fill it up with the little red things that make it spark when you shoot it, they are sold in dollar stores here and most little boys have them, when you put the gun up to someone's skin and fire it, it burns quite badly, as I learned from having boys chase me after school every single day when I was little and shoot me with them.

I think he was referring to the fact that you said you had to be a certain age to buy them. It seems odd to us, as they are sold to any age in America as far as I know. Doesn't mean there isn't an age limit in Australia. |

 | Re: Toy guns: yay or nay? | | This reminds me of a quote I heard about the difference between girls & boys...a girl will pick up a stick & think of the amazing creations of trees...a boy will pick up a stick & pretend it's a gun & shoot with it. For a long time, I wouldn't let my boys have any toy guns. But as others mentioned, boys will pretend anything's a gun. I still am not big on toy guns, but I did get a bunch of water guns for my son's birthday party water-fight & they all had a blast!
I know you're talking about toy guns, some kids (young & old ) like real guns too. I personally believe they shouldn't be in a home with kids or teens. My cousin & his friend were messing with my uncle's gun & my cousin got shot & died. My nephew also got shot in the eye by a bb gun & almost lost his sight in that eye. Way more accidents happen with guns than they help (except maybe in war zone or remote hunting villages). Gun safety requires that they be locked & bullets separate...so if a robber broke in & the gun was needed in an emergency...would there be time to unlock & load it? |

It's a common newbie mistake, it's not aa big deal but it works to keep things fresh here. :-) |
