 | Why not smoke Cannabis? | | Hello from Germany,
My son is 17 years old, a straight A student in his school, on the wrestling and track team.
In our country he is legally allowed to drink beer, which we let him do since we trust him. He has never betrayed our trust, and is very responsible.
A few months ago he told us he wanted to try smoking Cannabis, as a friend of his had tryed it, enjoyed it and offered it to him. Having smoked when I was a youth I saw no problem with it, as long as he were to do it in moderation, keep his grades up and not leave the house when he does it.
I recall Cannabis giving me great insight to my problems as a youth, it was very relaxing at the end of a hard day, and to me it was an experience I would not change for the world.
The fact is I believe that a toke or two of cannabis is no more harmful than a cold beer at the end of the day. For example
- There is no reachable lethal overdose for Cannabis, as there is for alchohol
- Cannabis has never caused a single death - Alchohol has caused 300,000+ per year.
I find that most people that fear cannabis do not actually know the facts - most just listen to the propaganda fed to them by their government. I think cannabis is the #1 cash crop in the USA?
I know some parents might disagree with me, and I would like to know why exactly. |

I'm fine with the debate. But don't lie to us. |

Children: 4 yr old goof ball | Re: Why not smoke Cannabis? | | The main reason I can think of for not smoking pot is the fact that
IT ISN'T LEGAL!!!
If you want your kid to end up with a criminal record then by all means spark the doob for him.
I don't agree with the fact that alcohol is legal and pot isn't but that is just the way that it is.
Go Bills!!!!

But, I must agree with GW. It's not legal. And before you give the argument that neither is driving without a seatbelt or speeding or whatever, you're absolutely correct. Which is why I abide by both of those laws as well.

I'll admit to being the boring ole stick in the mud and say I've never even tried the stuff. There's way too many addicts in my family. I don't even want to take that chance.
I dated way too many stupid stoners when I was younger and it's a big turn off how stupid and giggley grown men can be while on it.
That said, there's a whole lot of angry drunks out there, but you never see an angry pot head. Just annoying paranoid ones.
So I pretty much don't care either way. If my kids said "hey mom, we want to try pot!" I would not run out and buy them a bag. But I wouldn't stick them in the nearest rehab either. |

Children: DD (10) and DS (12) | Re: Why not smoke Cannabis? | | Ditto Good Wolf and Happy Momma! It's ILLEGAL!! Getting arrested and having that on one's permanent record could always come back to haunt them. If parents knowingly allow their child to smoke pot it could get them into big trouble as well, and they could quite possibly lose custody of any or all children.
I did a fair share of partying back in the day and have to ask, who takes just a toke or two?! Oh, and at one particular concert someone very near and dear to me actually passed out from smoking too much. |
