I'll just post the interesting parts of our two birth stories.

With our first child, my wife's water broke 11 days before she was due while we were attending the last session of our getting-ready-for-birth class. That was quite interesting. I think some of the other pregnant women in the class were jealous that we were about to be parents. That was at about 8pm the night before my 33rd birthday so we thought that if things went according to the averages, our first child would share my birthday. Indeed she does. My wife was in labor for about 12 hours all told. The hardest part was the pushing. There was no 'relief' for her once pushing started. She pushed for 3 hours. She did the whole thing with no drugs. I still can't believe it and am incredibly proud of her for that achievement.

With our second child, my wife had trouble sleeping one night, about 10 days before her due date. By 7am, when she woke me up, it was pretty clear that we were going to be having our 2nd baby that day. We made phone calls to a friend who had agreed to watch our daughter and to my wife's Mother who had agreed to come spend a couple weeks with us and help take care of our daughter while we were in the hospital. Our friend showed up to watch our daughter, and My wife showered and did her hair (against my wishes). Then we were off to the hospital. 45 minutes after arriving to the hospital and 10 minutes after getting into the birthing suite, our 2nd daughter was born. Again, my wife labored with no drugs and while it was definitely her preference, I don't think there would have been time to do it any other way this time. We were both thrilled to have another girl (I can say that after the fact). My wife was especially glad that our older daughter would have a sister to grow up with as she had two sisters herself.

We used a doula at both our births and I'd HIGHLY recommend using one if it's something you can afford. I think it's especially valuable for the Dad. It was wonderful to have someone experienced in the room advocating for us and helping me to take care of my wife.

There were lots of other details, some of which I can remember, and some not, but those are the highlights.

Nice - thanks for posting that. My wife could be going today/tonight for all we know. She's having regular contractions (although "weak"). Baby's due date is tomorrow!

The day I first saw the little wiggling embryo on the sonogram ... even that was absolutely amazing. I'm gonna be a wreck!

Good luck Tom.... Best wishes haven't heard if the baby is hear so let us know....

And if anyone has ready my post "time to start planning" you know I'm planning to get pregnant soon!!!

My birth story of my Daughter Ariana who is now 4 years old:
I was due March 25, 2003 My appointment was on that day I wasn't in labor yet I had dialated to 3 centameaters since my 8th month... No contrations either... I went for a checkup and I had high blood pressure, nobody could explain why I was 19 not over weight and very healthy and only gained 20 to 25 pounds during my pregnancy... They told me to come back the next day so they could check it once more before they decided to do anything else. So I came back the next afternoon and it was still high.. There was 8 women in labor at the hospital that day and they said let see if you go into labor by tomorrow if not check in at 4:00am to be induced... Well I didn't go into labor so I went to be induced on March 28th. I got patocin at 4:30am.... I know many people came to visit I can remember the room being full with visitors but I don't know who was there.. I was in pain and I didn't want pain med... So I went untill 9:30pm with out pain med.. After 16 hours I needed something... I got an epidural well right after that it was time to start pushing so the pain med never really did kick in...LOL... I started pushing right before 10:00pm I pushed and Pushed and pushed for 2 hours.... Finally the baby started coming she come out 12:06 am March 29th 2003 she was 9 lbs 3oz 19inches long (a big baby, that explained the high blood pressure)... My boyfriend saw it was a girl (I don't like to find out while I'm pregnant) He looked at me and said "it's a girl" my mom was smiling.. My dad and sister were also in the room but all the way on the other end... Then they took her to do all the test and clean her I looked and my boyfriend was standing there looking white like he saw something very scary... I looked at my mom and she looked nervous she was saying everythings alright your just bleeding a little bit, they told my dad and little sister they had to leave the room... They paged a few dr's over the emergency page... I remember thinking I hadn't even seen my baby.... The dr and nurses were running all over the room, and they gave me I think 2 shots it happend so quick I couldn't really tell. (I didn't really know at first if something was wrong with me or my baby girl I hadn't even seen yet)... finally it was over.... Everything was fine, I lost a lot of blood so I was halfway out of it and I finally got to see my beautiful baby girl 1 1/2 hours after she was born.... Best moment of my life!!! It was all worth it..........
