Default Child advancement by age in daycare

Question regarding child not advancing with others in daycare.

Our daughter has her birthday in September and daycare moves the kids to the next room once they reach 4 if before August 11. So, my daughter did not advance this year and is now 4 in the '3 Year Old Room. We learned this morning that she may not move until next fall, she will then be 5 and the majority of the class will be 4 and 3.

My concern is that she will not advance at the rate she should because she will still be doing activities for 3-4 year olds and socializing with kids up to 2 years younger than her.

Am I overreacting?

Former teacher here.... Have you asked why they have not moved her to the 4 yr. old room? That's the first thing I would do. Once you know their reasons you may or may not agree, but can go from there. Perhaps she is young developmentally compared to her peers, and they feel she wouldn't do well in the next room. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Some kids need a little more time before they're able to handle what's expected in a school setting. TALK with the teachers about your concerns.

I don't know much about daycare, but yes i would want her moved into a higher class as well.
My friend has a similar problem was base daycare (marines) Her daughter is 8 months old and walks but is stuck in the infant room instead of the room for walkers. She feels bad because this little girl does not get to do things that she normally would enjoy like pulling up on toys and such. But being in the infant room she is stuck with only floor play. i
I would talk to the daycare again.

Trina, thanks for the reply. No, she just received her assessment and she scored 99% (still working on recognizing her name - confused madison with morgan) and the only reason is that when they moved everyone from her room that was 4 before 8/11, they then filled the 4 year old room. Now there is no room for her and another child that is in the same boat.

Kaytee, yeah, regression is our biggest concern. When she was 2, the same thing happened while she was potty training. Everyone else potty training moved up and all of the babies moved in. Maddie, practically stopped potty training then because nobody else was doing it.

If there is no room for her in the proper age group, get in her in a new daycare where this is. Simple :-)

These young years are critical for preparation for kindergarden and such...do all you can to get your kid above average. That means putting her in a great pre-k learing program as well as studying with her at home so she knows how to read by the time she does get into kindergarden.

yeah, I know. Unfortunately this is the "best" daycare in town. I plan on talking to them. If moving is the only option, then we will have to explore that.

Thanks for the reply!
