Children: Taylor, Kylee, Emylee, Kenna | Cloth diapering | | I have heard a few of you say you have or do still do this. I have never used cloth diapers but was thinking of doing it with this baby. I was thinking more of the lines of it being cheaper. I have so many questions and have already tried researching it. Here are some of my questions.
How big of a hassle is it? Are or were you constantly doing laundry? I do laundry everyday being as there are 6 people in our house now so I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I am just worried about not having enough diapers. Which brings me to the next question.
How many did you buy? What kind works best? I have heard the more expensive ones are better but then some say just cheap wal-mart ones work. Your opinion?
Any other input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: Cloth diapering | | I started with 12 and I washed everyday. I started with a pocket diaper called Fuzzi Bunz. I think it's super easy. Now I have enough diapers that I wash every other or every 2 days. I can't say enough good things about cloth diapering...it's really not a big deal at all. If you have any more questions along the way you can post them or PM me anytime

Children: Nichole | Re: Cloth diapering | | I started when dd was around 14 or 14 months old. She wore then till she was 2.
I started off with a mixture of different brands as my friends let me borrow some of theirs to see if they worked. They did. We had no problems wiht leaks, diaper rash or anything. As far as the hassle. Yes they are more work then disposables but they are not hard. Just takes a a few seconds to dump a turd in the potty (or for breastfed newborns you just throw it straight in the washer) I had around 12 as well. So every other day. Obviously with a newborn you would want more then that. My friends that cd from the beginning said prefold with snappies are the best for newborns. Cheaper since they grow so quickly in the first few months.
My favorite brand was swaddlebees. Super cute, never leked, and more slim then most. Looked like disposable under her clothes. .
Any questions for me just ask!
I will probably coth the next one as well |

 | Re: Cloth diapering | | It was a huge hassle for me. I did it for a couple days and then quit. I was doing laundry every day. And taking him places with cloth diapers was a real pain.

Children: Nichole | Re: Cloth diapering | | well since I have playgroups twice a week (with an hour drive) and church twice a week (only a 20 minute drive but we are there anywhere from 2-5 hours at a time)
Its easy!!!! You put a diaper on their bum and you leave just like a sposie. They make these things called wet bags. They are small little bags (well some are bigger) that have a water proof liner) when you change them you just put the dirty diapers in the bad and zip it up. When you get hom you dump it straight in the washer. They also make paper liners that you can put in the diaper for easy poop clean up. I never used it though.
Yes you have to do laundry. I did it every day anyways!! As I had one load a night to do. So after I di the day laundry, I would start it as soon as Nichole took off her cloth (she wore sposies at night) then I would presoal in the washer for about 30 minutes, then run it it hot water. Then throw it in the dryer before I went to bed. Dry clean diapers for the morning |

I was just thinking about what I wanted to do this time that I never did before and this was one of things. Being as this will be our last I want to make sure I get it all in. I really would like to try breastfeeding too but I am scared with 4 other ones to look after I will never get a bit of sleep. I don't we will see.

You can always switch after giving it a shot. Also nursing is only hard the first few weeks that you are establishing it. Then its easier then a bottle. Think of it this way. When its time to feed with a bottle, you have to go get the bottle, fill it with water, add the formula, shake it (all while baby is screaming) then when baby is done, you have to take the bottle to the sink. You have to wash 8 plus bottles a day. Or if you use drop ins then you have to put the little bags in the bottles. Sure its not A LOT of work, but its much more then lift shirt attach baby and sit....... thats it, babies done...pull shirt down and go.
If yo go out you have to remember to make sure you have bottles, and formula with you at all times. With breastfeeding, you don't.
There is a saying that many breastfeeders on line have said "I'm to lazy to bottle feed" its sooo true |

 | Re: Cloth diapering | | I say give it a shot. I wasn't trying to discourage you from using cloth diapers. I was just sharing my experience that didn't work out so well. My two best friends cloth diaper and they love it.
