 | did I do the right thing? | | Oliver was overly tired tonight and has a double ear infection and was acting out a bit. I didn't know what to do so I just scooped him up and held him until he stopped crying which was about 30-45 seconds. After that he laid in my lap for 20 minutes completely peaceful. Was it wrong to hold him like that? I wasn't hurting him I was just holding him so he would stop behaving badly.

 | Re: did I do the right thing? | | Thanks. I was calm the whole time and was only trying to calm him down. He was acting out because he didn't know what he wanted so I just did what I thought was best. I knew I wasn't hurting him but I just wanted to make sure that he knew I wasn't trying to hurt him. I was trying to comfort him.
I have very little confidence with discipline. Sometimes I just need someone to tell me what I did was okay because I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. lol

I wanted him to feel loved and comfortable so he would calm down. Thanks. I feel a little better. I just hate feeling so helpless.

 | Re: did I do the right thing? | | The fact that he calmed down in less than 1 minute is a sign that you did what he needed you to do. If he continued to thrash and try to wiggle free, then it would be safe to assume that while what you did was not bad, it was not what he needed and it would be time to try something different. |

If everyone would stop and love a little bit, problems would simply melt away....Even something as simple as smiling at a stranger as you pass can change the whole world!
