Default Hello, I'm new here

Hello everyone, my name is carol. I have 2 beautiful daughters, Jessica is 2 1/2 and Amber is 4 months old. I'm a SAHM, married for 3 years and I'm in Southern Ca. I've come from another board, they moved to a different site and navigating became too difficult for me with the 2 kids. So, I came across this site and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hello Kaytee,
I wanted to reply to the other message you sent me, but I didn't know how since someone else replied too and I wasn't sure if I was replying to your post or to the other lady's post. So I will just reply to you here until I know how to reply to different people within a thread. Thank you for your words of encouragement, I must admit, breastfeeding takes lot's of commitment. So far, my dd and I have had to overcome Thrush (that lasted 4 ever) over-active/forceful letdown, foremilk/hindmilk imbalace. Things are MUCH better now, however, and I think it's because I also have a 2.5 year old dd who is needless 2 say, demanding, the sitting at the breast 80 % of the day is getting old!!!! My letdown is still very fast, so she should be able to empty the breast quickly, however, I find myself putting her to the breast every 1.5 - 2 hours she stays on the right side 5-10 min (that side lets down ultra fast and she is now old enough to handle the fast flow, she will stay about 15 min. on the left side, then an hour later we're doing the same thing again, only this time she only sucks on one side to trigger a letdown, then falls asleep, and good luck trying to get her off the breast without waking her and then the crying begins!!! I'm going nuts. It's a vicious cycle that lasts all day long. At night, she sleeps from 8 p.m. till approx. 2 or 3 a.m. wakes up to eat and ends up side nursing in my bed until the morning. I prefer she sleeps inher bassinette and not my bed, but sheer exhaustion has forced me into taking this route 4 the time being. Sorry this is so long, but I welcome and appreciate any advice you can give me. Also BIG congratulations to yo on bf your dd this long, you should be proud of yourself, I hope to make it as far as you have I hope this post makes sense to you, because I'm typing with one hand (left) and my dd is asleep onthe right breast.

lol I have nursed while typing many times. Anyways I think you just need to relax and enjoy her. I didn't have many problems nursing luckily. I had engorgement ultra bad when my mild came in, I went from a c cup to an E and it was too small. I also had the high fever and my nipples were so big it was truly scary! lol Anyways
As far as advise goes I think you need to decide whether you want her to nurse all day in a sling or wrap or the like. I highly reccoment a mai tei!! I love mine so much!!!
Or you are going to have to struggle with her for a few weeks until you get on a different pattern. The best thing to do is try to keep her awake during the feedings. Just like you had to when she was first born. Get her undressed, tickle her feet, I used a nursing necklace starting around this age since my dd was very distractable. She would play the latch on latch off game all day long lol. You have to make sure she eats, really truly eats. Then you know she is full. At that point you know she can go 2 hours at least. from that point she may want to comfort nurse. That is up to you weather you want her too. Most will say yes let her. I personally couldn't stand it, dorve my nipples crazy to put in plainly. But my dd was not much into it and was big time thumb sucker so I got lucky there. Not sure what I would have done otherwise.
You may want to try a pacifier if you haven't already. Not sure how you feel about those.
She will cry and protest this new arrangement, I can guarentee it. As I said in a different thread, I never let my baby CIO, just didn't feel it was right. So all you can do is hold her and let her cry. Or if you do do CIO that works too.
If y ou just let her be, she will grow out of this and you will miss it. Did you nurse your eldest child? Again you may want to try a sling or wrap. If y our interested I can tell you how to make a wrap. No sewing involved and its cheap too. Mai ties are also great I said, I have a friend who has an on-line store, she makes them. I have two of hers and they are great!!!! This way your baby can get what it wants (to sleep on your boob) and your eldest gts attention that I am sure a 2 year old needs. If you have other questions don't hesitate to ask me This is long and kinda rambly, my kid is super shiney today and its driving me batty!!!

Default Re: Hello, I'm new here

I have considered a sling, but there are so many out there, that I don't know where to start. I use the baby Bjorn, but I cannot nurse with it. I also tried the infantino sling, my dd hated it!!My oldest dd I pumped and gave her for 4 months , we had major latch isues, bleeding nipples ,engorgement, basically got off to a bad start and I did not get help as often as I needed. So this time, I vowed to nurse no matter what. I already tried the soothie pacifier, the nuk and the gerber, my dd will not take any of those three. I even tried to guide her thumb in her mouth but she doesn't go for it, sometimes she will put her whole fist in there, but will not just suck her thumb. The CIO is too painful, I tried it and it did not work, so to me it is worthless. I would like to try a sling, where do I start?? Thanks a bunch

I also tried the bijourn (aka piece of crap) lol My dd hated it as well. and the infantino is not worth a dime in my opinion.
I have never used a sling personally, but I have used a wrap, so that it is a sling.
Let me see if I can find some pics fo ryou really quick

Thanks 4 the pics. I prefer a sling/wrap to put my dd in the front, she's petite so I want her in front of me. It looks a little complicated, how do you get your dd (she's so cute!!) on your back like that?? Does someone have to help you?

In the beginning yes, but after a few times its very esay and very quick. I throw her right on my back and do my grocery shopping or walk around at the zoo. Now that she is bigger (17 months) I don't put her on my front as often. When she was your dds age I did. Its super easy to nurse and be discrete, no one would ever see!! When she is super tired now I will still put her on my front, makes it more cozy fo rher.
As far as rings, the ones my friends use are ring slings, I can ask them which they prefer. I'll see them next Tuesday. Part of a playgroup. funny a baby wearing playgroup. lol
