Default Out of control

Hello, my name is Heather, and I need help! I know this is completely my fault, but my 18 month old is completely out of control! I have let him "run" the house. He is soooo spoiled. If he doesn't get his way, he throws himself on the floor and cries. My 5 year old was nothing like this, but he was also in daycare. So I have to say it is all my fault. I just need some help trying to get him in-line and under control. My 5 year old was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 8 months ago, so I have been really focused on that. I don't want to be THAT mom in the mall that has the horrible child,,,,please help!

If his brother lays his head on me, he hits him. My kitchen table is where everyone puts there stuff when they walk in, and he pulls it all off the table, pop cans and all. He pulls all the books off the book shelves. He pulls all the toys aout of their toy boxes. And he doesn't play with any of it. Its like he's just doing it to make a mess!

I have an 18 month old and he's going through the hitting stage too. I tell him "no" the first time and if he does it again I use a modified time-out. I hold him in my lap for 30 seconds gently and calmly restrained. You have to make it very clear that the behavior is not acceptable.

You need to do a bit more child proofing re: the cans and books. About the toys, get used to it. He's just having fun.

I agree with Lissa. He's testing his limits with you and you NEED to be consistant about the rules you lay down for him. Same rules and punishments apply even if your at a store. it may take a while but he WILL learn

My son is only 12 months and his greatest joy is dismantling and taking things out of their storage places. So like the other posters, I think that part is just normal development. I also agree with what the other posters said in regard to consistent responses to behaviors that you don't want to see.

While it may be a little more work now, his behavior can be modified.
