 | Sleeping through the night? | | Hi, I am writing an article for iParenting.com, part of the Disney Family Group. The article will address sleep issues in young toddlers. I have expert quotes from a pediatrician who specializes in sleep issues....now I need quotes from real parents. I’d love to include quotes from parents whose baby is approaching his or her first birthday and is still not sleeping through the night. What is a typical night like for you? Are you in and out of the room? Are you exhausted and at your wits end? Please share your experiences. [/font]Thanks so much!

 | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | Kaytee,
Thank you so much for responding! I admit that I posted this request in my regular writing forum (they have a section specifically for getting article quotes) and no one has responded. I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to post the request here or not. I really appreciate it.
What I need to include in the article are simple anecdotal quotes from moms or dads about dealing with their child's sleep issues.
If you could share anything related...how many times you are up and down in the night to tend to your child? What you do? Strategies you have tried to help your child with sleep? Anything really.
I have expert quotes from Dr. Judith Owens, pediatrician and author of Take Charge of Your Child's Sleep. She has given advice that I can include in the article.
I would need to include your name, city and state in the article. Would this be okay? You could give me a maiden name or middle name, if you prefer. |

Children: Bailey | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | I don't know if you need it but it may also be helpful to have in there stories like ours where maybe we are doing something right or maybe just dumb luck that our 10 mos. old has slept through the night since she was a month old, learning what other people are doing to insure their kids sleep through the night can be helpful too. Just an idea. |

 | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | Yes, this is a great idea. Thank you. Your quotes could supplement the Dr.'s. It would be great to hear from parents on both sides of the sleep issue!
Thank you!

Children: Nichole | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | Well Nichole did sleep through the night once upon a time!! lol She was an exclusively breast fed baby, and starting at about 6 weeks she was going 8 hours a night. I thought I had it easy. By 3 or 4 months she was waking once around 5, nursing and going back to sleep till 7 (12 hours). Then around 6 months, she started waking up. Her docs now believe she had severe stomach pain (not gas just pain) We did not know this until she was 18 months old. Good thing I never made her cry it out all alone.
Anyways, she started waking every 2-3 hours every night for months and months. She was easy to get back to sleep though. I would just lay with her and nurse her and we would both go back to sleep. She was eating full meals not just sucking to sleep either. Everyone told me, "oh you need to stop night nursing her, then she will sleep" well yay right!!! lol At 15 months old she night weaned herself. She just stopped asking for it. She still woke every 2-3 hours.
Now at 27 months old, she wakes anywhere from 1-3 times a night, with the occasional sleep through the night.
It does not bother me at all. I just remind myself that she is only 2 years old and growing up so fast. In just a short time, she will no longer want me to hold her like I do now. It keeps me grounded.
As far as what I do when she wakes up. It depends. Sometimes she just lays in her bed and cries, so I go to her and tell her its ok and lay her back down. SHe usually goes right back to sleep. Sometimes I have to lay with ehr for a minute to get her to calm down, but that is rare.
Sometimes she comes into my room. In those cases, I just pick her up and lay her with me in bed. I don't mind at all. I figure as long as she can go to bed in her own bed without a problem, then wh ocares if she snuggles with me for an hour a night (as its usually between 5 and 6 in the morning that she comes to my room) We get up at 7. |

 | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | I've been very lucky. My son has been sleeping through the night since 2 months old (8 hours at a time). Right now he goes to bed at 7:00 and wakes around 7:00 or 7:30 the next morning. He is very good about sleeping through the night, but will wake when something is wrong (teething, sick, etc.). On those rare occasions, I answer him.

Children: Taylor, Kylee, Emylee, Kenna | Re: Sleeping through the night? | | My first daughter slept through the night when she was about 3 months old. The second started about 2 weeks old. Other than teething, being sick and nightmares, I have never had a problem with either one.
My third started sleeping through the night at around 2 months and but since we put her in her toddler bed (about 18 months, she is now almost 3) she wakes up to climb in bed with us.
My fourth slept through the night about a month old. Never had a problem until she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, went through a cast and was put into a brace. Once we got that brace on she hasn't slept through the night since. She has had the brace off for about 2 weeks but still wakes up 1-2 times a night.
