Children: Nichole
Default toddler beds?

So Nichole is 16 months old now! geez time is flying huh, anyways I am considering moving her to a toddler bed sometime in the next few months. The reason is she is a monkey and is learning to climb out of it. Ijust don't want her to get hurt climbing out. So her be
droom is at the top of the stairs, so i was going to get a stair gate to block it, when she moves to the big girl bed. Well a few days ago she climbed one of them. Now what do I do? I refuse to lock her in her room, thats just dangerous in my opinion, but at the same time she is not really good at the whole turn around and go down the stairs. Any suggestions form the BTDT moms!?

My #1 suggestion... crib tent. You can put something over her crib so she can't climb out.

Just curious... why don't you want to close her bedroom door? My 2yo's son's door is always closed if he is sleeping in there (we have cats and I didn't want them in the crib) He is still in his crib, but when he is in his 'big-boy' bed, we will do the same. We just have monitor to listen out for him and his room will be very well child-proofed.

They make extra-tall gates and you could put one in her door. Most people I know put the gates on the doors, and then also have gates on the stairs. Then , there are two obstacles to conquer.

If you are worried about not being able to see into her room if the door is closed, you could always get a screen door to put on there. I know many Moms who do that when they don't want to close the actual bedroom door.

HTH!

thanks Stephanie the double gate idea is great!!!!!! I don't mind shutting her door just not locking her in. I do keep her room door open now but thats because she still wakes through out the night, yes I know she is 16 months old lol. Anyways I don't use a monitor so I can hear her with the door open. I just think its not good to lock them in, if I just shut it, should would open it.

Oh... I understand. My son doesn't know how to open up doors yet, so we don't have that problem. The knobs on our doors aren't easy to open at all.

I would suggest the double barrier with gates or a crib tent.

Once she is older, you can teach her that she can't leave her room until she hears a certain sound. You could set a clock radio, for instance, and tell her she can leave her room once she hears the music playing.

too bad she is only 16 months old now, so I think I have awhile before she gets the don't leave concept. lol She is yet to get all the way to the top of the crib, so hopefully we will be able to keep her in there a bit longer

Why don't you look into a crib tent? That would save you a lot of trouble and she can stay safely in her crib for many more months to come.

These must be new since I had infant/toddlers. What's a crib tent? Is it safe to have something over the crib?

Default Re: toddler beds?

We never had a crib tent. I have never heard of them. It sure would have helped. I was forever putting them back in bed. But really after about a month they got used to them and stayed in bed more. Thank Goodness.
