Default Walkers yea or nay?

I've had my son in a walker for about a month or so now and I keep reading how walkers are dangerous and imped development. I put him in the walker originally because he is still refusing to crawl. He's never liked "tummy time" instead he screams his little head off and gets angry eyebrows. When hes upset or angry his eyebrows turn red then the screaming starts. He runs in the walker now but he still seems to prefer me helping him walk and inspect things. I know we can just get closer to whatever hes trying to get then he can in the walker. Anyway I know some babies dont crawl but it's driving me crazy.

Default Re: Walkers yea or nay?

ok yes they are dangerous and yes they can impede walking BUT not for the normal person or child.
It is dangerous because parents don't know how to watch their children and they fall down stairs or use the walker in order to reach high things that they normally could not have reached.
They can impede developement in the legs and hips IF they are strapped in the thing for hours a day.

I used a walker with Nichole with no problems. She was downstairs and rarely in it for more then 15-20min total a day. She loved and and zoomed around the kithcen. She was crawling around 7 or 8 months and walking by 11 months. So I think we are ok. lol

Yeah Isabella used the walker during my housecleaning time everyday. That way she could follow Mommie and make sure I was doing everything right LOL!

I used a walker for all 4 of mine. The last one I didn't use it as much and she is the one with the hip problem. Kind of weird how it worked out that way. My oldest was probably in it the most. She a crawled around 7 months and was walking around her 1st birthday. The second was crawling around 6-7 months and walking at 10 months. The 3rd was crawling at 6 months and walking at 9. So I don't know if it delay's development or not, I have never heard that. I have heard of how dangerous they are around stairs. We have gates at all of our stairs and I only used it downstairs anyways.

Joanne is on a distinguished road
Default Re: Walkers yea or nay?

I used a walker with my two kids with no problems at all. The both learned to walk on their own, and I believe their walkers actually helped them learn. I agree with other posters regarding the safety issues. Just watch your child while he is in his walker. Mine loved moving around independently. It was very cute!
