Default 6 Year old and trouble in school/attention

I have a 6 year old, almost 7, that has been causing some problems during class with not paying attention and disrupting. He was caught climbing the bathroom stalls urinated on the floor. Then he pushed a friend at recess and was taken to the office. He only seems to act like this during class and after school activities? We are firm with him at home and this doesn't happen with us.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Ask the school to evaluate him. It is free, and by law, they are required to do so with a written request.

You can use this sample letter and give it to your son's principal, special education admin at your school, and the special admin director for the whole school district. (make sure the latter is sent registered mail, with return receipt)

Once you submit that letter, they are on a scheduled timeline for the evaluation, by law.

You may gain some real insights into what may be going on with your son, and support services at school if he qualifies. Even if he doesn't - you'll have some idea of where to begin on your own.

It sounds to me like something is really bothering your son, and since he is only acting up at school, I would hazard a guess that something at school is bothering him, possibly another child, maybe an adult, or maybe he is struggling with the material. Maybe he just doesn't fit in with the whole "school" thing-I sure never did. Either way, talk to him and find out what it is thats bothering him. He probably wouldn't act out if something wasn't bothering him.
