Default How to get my kids into sports when they're starting "late"

My kids are 7 & 9 and I haven't exposed them to team sports and I now realize that is a mistake. Took the younger one to play bball w/ bunch of his friends and he was excited and pumped cuz he practices one on one w/ me and when he played in the team he was very discouraged because of the dynamics.

Dilemna is that most of the teams at his age or his older bro's age is already experienced and in team competition mode rather than learning HOWTO mode. Any advice on how I can go about getting them exposed without further killing their confidence in the area?

If you join at the YMCA (and probably other places also) there are beginning levels for all age groups - I would try something like that. It would also be less competitive, and I think that is better when you are just learning the dynamics of team sports.

Ok, I've heard the same advice more than once so sounds like a plan. Thanks!

Plenty of kids start sports around that age-I started gymnastics when I was 11, and I was winning medals and all that with everyone else within a year! Right now I am 20, and I am trying to get into ice hockey (since it is THE sport up here in the land of ice and snow). The only problem is ive never ice skated or held a hockey stick- but I won't let that stop me!
