Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Middle School (6th - 8th) | | General talk about middle school.
My daughter will be starting the 6th grade and for her it is very exciting. She has been looking forward to middle school all of last school year, and currently it is her #1 favorite topic of conversation. |

| Re: Middle School (6th - 8th) | | When I was a kid, middle school was 7th and 8th. I know some schools include 6th in that group, too. |

There are middle schools here but they're very few and far between from what I gather. My youngest stepson has just finished what would be his first year at middle school, he really enjoyed it. More of the social aspect but he feels really grown up. He likes the variety - and the girls .

Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Re: Middle School (6th - 8th) | | I believe our school district is pretty typical across the country. Grades 6th - 8th, ages 11- 13. Kids in my daughter class range from 10 (almost 11) and 12 (almost 13).
My daughter is the shortest girl in her class. She is about the average height of 4th grader. Most of the time this doesn't bother her. Occasionally she'll make a comment that she wishes she was taller, but she has never wanted shoes that would raise her height by a couple of inches, and my wife has asked her if she wanted them. |

Children: 3 Daughters: 5yrs, 3yrs, new baby girl born Aug. 9, 08 | Re: Middle School (6th - 8th) | | Middle school here is about 11 to 13 years.. It includes grades 6th - 8th... I remember when I first went to middle school.. I was the smallest girl in my class also, but when going to middle school it's 6 -7 elementary schools that go into middle school... And I was no longer the smallest student at the school.. I'm pretty much average height now (maybe a few inches smaller)... But I loved middle school !! (but I loved high school, and college even though I left too soon...LOL)

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: Middle School (6th - 8th) | | I also loved middle school but I was recently surprised by how much things have changed. Last yr my girlfriends daughter was in 8th grade, she actually had 2 friends have babies...OMG. I cried when she told me that. But overall I think it's a great stepping stone for kids. We have a middle school and a junior high so they have plenty of time to mature before high school |

My daughter is clone of my wife, both are very petite. My wife is a few inches under 5ft, and I expect our daughter will the about the same. Her doctor says she is physically more mature than most 11 year olds and is likely she will have her first period in the next year or so.
Although my wife is use to buying her clothes in the girl's section, having a 11 year old daughter makes it slightly easier just to be there shopping when they are buying clothes together. My wife does find it hard to clothes that fit in the style of clothes she likes. Wearing a "Mickey Mouse" shirt is fine for around the house, but she has enough of a problem with people mistaking her as a teenager, so she avoids dressing like one when in public. |
