Children: I am pseudo daddy! I have 3 Goddaughters, a Godson, 5 nieces, and 3 nephews!
Default My 7yr old niece has a boyfriend!!

So this little 7yr old skate boarder from across the street knocks on the door looking for my baby. He was a little upset to find out that my Briana was not home at the time they had apparently scheduled to meet. He pulls out his CELL PHONE...cell phone? Really, at 7yrs old!? He looks at the time and says, "she was supposed to be here. We were supposed to meet after school". To top it off, he gives her a card with this poem,

"I wrote your name in the clouds, but the wind blew it away.
I wrote your name in the sand, but water washed it away.
I wrote your name in my heart, and there it will stay"

along with a picture of a horse, which she loves!! She takes horse riding lessons every Saturday! So it would seem that they are getting to know each other quiet well.

How do I approach this with out emotionally and psychologically scaring my baby? Help! What do I do and how!?

A 7 yr. old with a cell phone?! That's ridiculous. As far as the romance, keep an eye on things, but I wouldn't worry too much about it at this age. Next week they'll be on to someone/thing else. At least that's how it has been with my kids.

well the cell phone is odd, but maybe his watch broke, so mom handed him the phone on his way out so he could keep an eye on the time. Benefit of the doubt I guess lol

As far as a 7 year old having a boyfriend. Thats normal. I had a bf in first grade as well. NOw if they are kissing already, I would be concerned lol

I agree with the other posters, the boyfriend/girlfriend thing at this age is pretty harmless. My 6 year old has a "boyfriend" who lives down the street and he comes over to ride bikes and things like that. Nothing too serious.

And actually, where I live, kids with cell phones are not uncommon at all.

I'd tell him to get the he)) out of my yard! lol

I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless they are being alone. We have a little girl my son goes to school with and she stops by to say hello to him almost every week. She lives on the next street. It's harmless. Then again, it's my son.
If it were my daughter it would be a different story!

I 'got married' when I was 6 to my best friend Brian during lunch. For about 3 days afterwards we 'lived' in this particular corner of our school that kind of indented with a platform and he bought me heart shaped lollies.
Then we got bored and moved onto soemthing else. Its normal.

Thank you so much! To all who replied, I truly appreciate you taking the time to make me laugh lol by the awesome advice.

The things that worries me is how kids are having to grow up so much faster now a days. It seems like they don't have as much time to be kids as we did.

I'm leaning on open communication to guide us through this whole "child raising" process.

P.s. Has anyone discovered how to read kids minds yet. That would come in very handy!
