Children: Xander is 4, McKenzie is 3 months! | Re: No to Halloween?? | | Personally, I don't think its right to try to force a child to conform to a custom just because society deems it appropriate. They should be encouraged to be individual, and be rewarded, rather than punished for being themselves even when it is "going against the grain." I would allow them to take candy, while explaining that some people will not like the lack of costume and may not give you any. This way, they can figure the whole thing out for themselves, and decide how they feel about it. |

Children: Nichole | Re: No to Halloween?? | | I agree they should not conform but, trick or treating is a costume thing, so they can stay home, see the other kids in costumes and pass out candy. Then they still get to be individuals. |

Now with that said, does he say why he doesn't want to wear one? | That sounds like punishing him just because he doesn't want to do what "everyone else" is doing. What's wrong with thinking for himself? I would find someone to watch him while I took the others out.

Children: 1 boy, Nolan Kai | Re: No to Halloween?? | | I would tell him if he doesn't want to go trick or treating b/c of the other kids in costume that's okay, but would he like to get a costume to wear at home to pass out candy? He might want to dress up and just doesn't want to be scared outside in the dark with all the other kids. That way, he will still get to pick out a costume he wants, and likely, when he sees his siblings having a good time, he will want to join in and won't be costumeless.

 | Re: No to Halloween?? | | I am not sure that the parents always give the kids what the kids like.
Then the kids are very spoiled. This is not good http://www.sun1001.com/parenting/ |
