 | Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | I have a quick question. I live in a fairly safe area and I noticed that the parents of my sons friends allow them to ride around the block on their bikes. Now my son is seven and I just cannot get comfortable with him doing this so I have not allowed it. Am I wrong in this? Would you allow this? Thanks |

Children: 2 boys and 2 girls | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | My daughter is 6, and though we don't live in a safe area, if we did, I wouldn't let her go all the way round the block yet, unless I was out there with her. I don't think you're wrong, but I would definitely start to consider it in a year or so |

Children: Nichole | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | I also do not think its wrong. You need to be comfortable and trust him not to cross the street or talk to strangers. Also never by himself, only with friends. Also something you may consider is the emergency watches they have for kids now. i can't remember what it is called so if I have time I will try to google it, but it basically is an alarm system on their wrists. If the child tries to pull it off it squeals very loudly to get others attention. Only the parent or whoever knows which buttons to push can turn it off. It fairly hard to pull off, so it won't accidntly get pulled. |

| Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | I wouldn't let my 7yo ride around a block on his bike. I just have heard of too many kids being kidnapped. They can play where I can see them, or they can stay in. 7's too young for that much "freedom" IMO. |

 | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | See that is what I think. I am just so afraid of someone taking my children. I mean I am not constantly worrying about it or anything but the fear is there. I think I will wait one more year. Thanks for all your opionions. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | You should do that then. It's not detrimental that he has to do it now. |

Children: 5 year old girl, 2 year old boy and newborn boy | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | Well I remember riding all over the place when I was small, and my parents didn't think a thing of it. My brother on the other hand, they won't let go as far as they did me or my sister, and I know I wouldn't let my daugther either. We live in a scary world now and you have to trust yourself more than the actions of others when it comes to your childrens safty

 | Re: Question On 7 yr. Old Son | | I think it's totally up to you. You know your neighborhood. We have walkie talkies and the boys take one and I keep one at home while they're on bikes. |
