My friend is a single parent. She has two children ages 23 and 19. The oldest is married and the youngest moved away in July to start her career on the west coast.

I am becoming more and more worried about my friends' well being. She now has the house completely to herself and is growing lonelier and lonelier. It seems to be a no brainer that she is depressed. When she complains about how unhappy she is I try and make suggestions which are quickly shot down.

I have heard of Empty Nest Syndrome but is it usually this severe? I'm really getting worried. What can I do to help her?

all I can offer is to do whatever you can to keep your friend busy, or maybe suggest that she get some help if the depression is really bad

I agree, if it is a depression issue then she needs to seek help. Could it be that she was depressed before, but now its worse?
Other then that, just try to get her involved in other activities, that is hard with an adult friend though

When Empty Nest Syndrome is getting my mom down she kidnaps the grandkids for a weekend. Maybe you could have a girls day every once in a while or a sleepover.
