Children: Michael 2 and a half years, Colin 10 months | Re: Is it ok to expect my 18 yr old | | I'm 20 and I talk to my mom several times a week. I call her, text her. We do laundry together, she comes to my house and hangs out, she brings my 6 year old sister over, they visit with us and our kids. I think that for you to ask him to call and say hi a couple times a week is totally reasonable. Kids and parents should always stay in touch, there's never a bond greater than that between a child and a parent. Why lose it? |

Children: 18 yr old son | Re: Is it ok to expect my 18 yr old | | I agree with you Tracy totally. I have 4 sisters (had 5 but one died in 1988) and one brother, and all of us are very close, they are actually my best friends. Our children grew up together and still hang with each other today even with their spouses and THEIR own children.
My son is an only child, and the youngest out of the group, and his boy cousins go out of their way to let him know that they are his brothers and he is never alone. He is very fortunate.
I love getting together, seeing all my neices and nephews and Max all together in one place makes my heart very happy.
Thanks for your response. |

Thanks for your response. | That's really awesome you guys are still able to have a good relationship, all of you. My 18 year old sister (the only one I grew up with), lives in Alaska with our dad, and I see her maybe only once a year if that, she has a daughter, and I wish our kids were able to grow up together, but that's just not gonna happen. And as far as your son goes, he will start to miss you after not talking to you for awhile. Don't call him, let him call you. Unless it's important or you have a bad worried feeling about him, just give him some time to come around to calling you. |

Children: Hunter - 19, Bailey - 18, Alexis - 9, Nicholas & Lauren - 14 mnths | Re: Is it ok to expect my 18 yr old | | Hey, I know it may be a little bit late, but I'd love to comment.
I can totally understand your concern. No, I don't think it's too much for you to ask your son to call you every few hours! I am the exact same way. But I think when kids turn 18, they automatically think, 'Oh, I'm eighteen, I'm considered an adult now, I can do whatever I want.' I mean I think they go through a rebellious stage. My oldest Hunter certainly went through that.
One day, he'll realize that you just care about him and his safety. I bet he will apologize then. Well, good luck. He'll come around, I'm sure. |
