Re: Teens and Love: A different Perspective

I worry about my kids getting too involved at young ages. I have a 12 year old daughter and she is so cute (if I do say so myself). She is always talking about this boy or that and her friends...

    Re: MySpace and Teens

I agree with Fooser. I don't think any of my kids will have a myspace account. It's nice that they can communicate, but there are so many other things that they could be doing with their time.

Re: My sweet little boy has become a sarcastic disrespectful 12 year old. plz help me

Good for you for getting teachers and parents involved. Sometimes a little support is the missing ingredient.
I think that it is interesting that he is keeping his grades up (granted C isn'...

Re: My sweet little boy has become a sarcastic disrespectful 12 year old. plz help me

Here's the thing. There are times when the military programs, wilderness, and therapeutic boarding schools are useful. They serve a purpose, and for the most part I think kids make good changes...

    Re: Powerless Parents

I like that. It makes sense that they (doctors and therapists) are advisors. They have good information that can be helpful in empowering parents, but parents do give that away. They drop their...

    Re: Possible abuse?

I would agree that you get information from some experts on abuse, they may give you some tips, and your son may be open to talk to them himself.

As a cautionary note, this is a very emotional...

    Re: Possible abuse?

There are some different views on the privacy of teenagers in the home. Some parents refuse to look at their kids text messages or IM's and emails. You can decide for yourself, but there are some...

    Re: Powerless Parents

For some it can be helpful, but parents act out of fear and not knowing what to do and so it's off to a counselor. Who is looking out for us as parents? In the mean time, I would guess your parents...

    Re: Powerless Parents

I would agree that a third party could be helpful, but look at Cashflowjoe (the thread in the parenting debate), here is a kid who has no intention of giving up marijuana, what would the benefit be...

    Re: Powerless Parents

I have 5 children. The oldest will turn 12 this year and the youngest is about 7 months old. I've been married for just about 14 years. I'm from a family of 12 kids (I'm 7th oldest, hence the 7 in...

    Powerless Parents

I have come to a conclusion recently that in our culture, parents are giving up their power, they are being convinced that others are more powerful agents of change in the life of their kids than...

Cash--I know you said you weren't responing anymore, but I think this is a good discussion. I have a couple thoughts on potential consequences for being caught with marijuana.

Re: 16 Year old son's girlfriend is dying

I'm sorry to hear about your son's girlfriend. It sounds like it has been devastating to all of you. I'm glad to read that you have had a good talk with him--probably really reassuring for all of...

Re: Is it too late to parent?

I'm not sure if you are reading this post anymore, but I would like to say that it is not too late to parent your sons. A terrible thing happened to him and it sounds like it really hurts him, and...

    Re: My 14 year old

I think that a lot of parents really struggle with the transition to having a teenager. They sure can be nasty sometimes. Unfortunately there really isn't a quick fix to this--change takes time.
