I appreciate your passion and feel the same way, if the hitting was done without my consent. A swat for acting like an ass at school would hardly get such a reaction from me. The point that those of you who make these passionate posts seems to be forgetting is that the school in the article obtained permission from the parents to use corporal punishment and did not swat those from whom permission had not been obtained.
All these blindly passionate arguments are why some kids today have no respect for anyone. These kids know that there are enough people like you that will save them from any real discipline in the name of protecting them.
When these "protected" children grow into adults who have no clue how to behave as a productive member of society because every whim they've ever had has been indulged their entire life and they've never experienced any truly unpleasant consequence for any asinine behavior they choose to exhibit, and these behaviors are analyzed, rationalized, counseled and medicated, ask yourselves...which was more abusive?
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it...There is a huge difference between swatting to discipline and abuse. I hope more people remember that, soon.
