Kids will say this even if they didn't actually know it. My point being, cover the bases anyway, and you can show them respect while explaining things to them. It happens naturally by how you are talking to them, your body language, and any number of signs that people pick up on.
And speaking of tone of voice, inflections in your voice, body language etc...

Communicating over a forum with text only is completely different than talking face to face.. that is a poor example of trying to illustrate your point. If we were talking face to face and you and I could hear/see, that would be a different story if we still misunderstood each other or if one of us felt disrespected.
