Just to vent
Found out some crappy news today that Cara might be hard of hearing also. Not as bad as Elliott at this stage, but we have to go through the same tests where they have to put her under. That was the hardest for me with Elliott. DW is gonna take her because she is more attached to her. I told her its gonna be rough. Watching your kid be put under isn't fun to go through that's for sure. I put up a strong front for him until he was put under, but then I lost it. I hope she is up for it.

The procedure is called a " BAER" test (brainstem auditory evoked response). It can be done while sleeping which is the first choice, but as kids get older its harder to do that. The first time with Elliott they basically gave him a sort of cough syrup to make him sleepy and it didnt work and they had to do it again a few weeks later and put him out. This wasnt so bad but whatever it was they gave him turned him into a totally out of character a-hole the rest of the day. He was just fricking mean to everyone and everything. The test costs several thousand dollars each time so its much more cost effective to skip the first try with the "sleepy" medicine (This reminds me of the guy that said he would just rather have his employers healthcare expense and pocket the 10K, yeah, right)
The other test is a CAT scan, where for Elliott I basically had to hold the mask over his face while he was crying until he passed out...not fucking cool. (sorry for the language)

Re: Just to vent
I dont like this in the description of the proceedure I have had a lot of surgeries for my foot, Ds has been under once and DD twice.
They can wake right as rain or like hell came for a visit. Its a crap shoot Sounds like you due a right as rain.
You know the worst part of this is Anxiety.
She is young enough she wont even remember in a week. (I know that doesn't help)
Plan for the worst, hope for the best thats all you can do.
Good luck

Re: Just to vent
I am SO sorry ECD!!! That's terrible. Eli had to get an IV once and I had to leave the room cause I couldn't take it. I really hope its not too hard on her, the poor baby!! And most of all, I hope they find nothing wrong at all!!
