why, ya lose one?, check between the sofa cushions, I'm always losing them there.

which is a smarta$$ way of saying, "nope, no idea"

So, what's the deal, do you "chip" them, like dogs?

The RF ones have several settings near medum far up to like 650' and simply alarm when a child leaves the area. The GPS are of course more expensive more flexible. But less durable and more complicated. I'm thinking about one for Chloe. Some of the RF ones are water resistant and alarm when submerged.

that makes sense for her, I was wondering what part attached to the kid and how...

I wonder if they make one that will deliver a shock when a pre-adolescnet boy does a web search for "Boobs."

IA

Its almost like your some kind of mind reader. I was looking at training collar's Sunday and kept wondering if Cole was a med or large breed.

Some are watch band style some clip onto clothing. The Some of the RF models I looked at had alarms both on a base unit and on the wristband.

uh uh not sure it wouldn't be such a bad idea to try implants like with cats and dogs.

for chloe, she wouldn't be tempted to take it off herself or somethin'?? leave the jacket or bag or whatever by mistake or somethin??
maybe somethin' to put in her shoes? aren't some locators like that?

Well they claim the wrist bands are "tamper proof" And probably if you put the clips on a belt loop or somewere she didnt feel it would be OK. I think the RF sounds like a better deal. A alarm before she gets very far. The major failure mode I see is forgetting to use it or turn it on. Thats why I would like to train the dog. 5 or 6 grand for the dog and training.

in the shoes wouldn't work for Felix.. his shoes never stay on for more than 5 or 10 minutes and then they are off and stashed in the strangest places where mummy will never find them LOL and to think, i was excited when he first started to walk LOL

I am interested in learning more about specific products of this sort myself, so I look forward to reading any posts on this subject. I'm not real familiar with specfic products available for this purpose, but am generally familiar with the technologies involved. Someone else already noted that RF is for tracking within a small er area whereas GPS is somewhat unlimited in coverage area.

So just on that basis, you'd have to consider what your primary use would be, and whether a very local area (RF) would suffice or if you feel the need to track a child or something else from a greater distance (GPS).

A couple notes to be aware of:

GPS typically will only work when the device has a clear path / signal to the satellites up in the sky. As soon as the device is inside, you would not be able to track, other than looking at the last point where there was a GPS tracking, and presume that they are inside a building very nearby.

RF may have other potential "interference" issues, but to a limited degree, can track and receive signals through walls.

Cell phones are starting to include GPS technology, so for certain scenarios that can even be a device to utilize for tracking someone (I'm thinking security / emergency, not spying on their every move).

Look out Big Brother...

mamabear, thanks for the insightful post, it's nice you took the time to write such a useful response, BUT please to have a look at the rules. We ask that members not post to threads where the last response is over 30 days old. This keeps the threads new, and keeps the new threads up front where people will see them and comment.

If you come across something old you want to comment on just start a new thread of your own.

Otherwise, it's not a big deal, it's a really common mistake a lot of new people do, so I don't want it to deter you from participating more here. We're very glad to have you here.
