Re: Worst Parenting Advice Ever Heard
I heard from my grandma.... Don't let the cat near the baby. Cats take the baby's breath away.

When your baby cries, pinch their lips.

Re: Worst Parenting Advice Ever Heard
The way the cat story goes I think. Is that cats smell the milk on a sleeping babies breath and sticks their head in the mouth to get the milk suffocating the baby. Someone needs to suggest it to Mythbusters. Not with a real baby of course.

Re: Worst Parenting Advice Ever Heard
Our cat always tries to sleep on our babies, then again he is pretty evil.

My cat just smacks Eli in the head as he walks by. haha
Here's a pretty stupid one. My mom always told me you should splash a baby in the face with water (even if it scares them and makes them hold their breath and/or cry) so that they will get used to having water in their face.
I mean wtf. I don't even like getting water in my face. I thought that was pretty normal. I don't know about her, but I'm pretty sure most people get in the shower facing away from the spray. But then again, maybe our moms didn't splash enough water in our faces as babies. lmao (yeah right)

Re: Worst Parenting Advice Ever Heard
Also, directly along the lines of "don't pick your baby up or you'll spoil him", my mom and her mom (along with oodles of other people) also think that a baby MUST be allowed to cry for periods of time with no parental response in order to develop their lungs. How dumb is that.
Oh and a kind of funny, obviously not true one is my grandma told us that if a baby is off schedule (sleeping during the day, up at night) all you have to do is wait for a full moon and when he's asleep grab him by the heel and flip him over. And he's fixed. lmao I could be wrong but I could swear she said she did it to my uncle.

I believe the international community has pretty much condemned that practice for prisoners of war, enemy combatants and babies....
