Best Baby Carrier?
Hello out there,
We are headed to Hawaii with our 4 month old in a week! Woo-Hoo!!!!
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good baby carrier. There are so many out there and they're not cheep so I'd hate to waste the $ buying one that we don't end up using. Baby Bjorn seems to be the preferred, there is the original model (cheapest), an "active" model, then a "coolest" model (both mid-priced) and then one that combines the "active" & "coolest" (most expensive). Has anyone used any of these and what are your opinions of them? Also, does anyone have recommendations for another type?
I had a Snugli backpack for my first two kids and we never ended up using it very much at all, and we are a fairly active family. My little ones just didn't seem very happy being in it.
Now, with my new baby, we have a Moby wrap, which seems like it would be too hot for the beach, and we haven't had much luck keeping him happy in this one either.
Maybe I am just lousy at trying to use these things for my kids. But, we need something, you can't really use a stroller on the beach!
I would really appreciate any ideas you may have!
Thanks!

Why don't you just use the car seat?

Re: Best Baby Carrier?
Lugging the car seat along while walking around the beach or in other unpaved natural areas seems like it would be quite cumbersome. Thus, the baby backpack idea!

Re: Best Baby Carrier?
oh, here a baby carrier is like a car seat but it only attaches to a push chair frame, like this

Re: Best Baby Carrier?
Yes, we are bringing a carseat that nicely attaches to a collapsible stroller. But this won't do in all the places we would like to go.
A baby carrier or baby back pack, something like the picture here seems the way to go. But there are so many. And I have used two before that really didn't work out. So hoping some folks have some recommendations for a carrier that child was happy in, good for hot weather, comfortable to carry, and basically worth the expense!

Re: Best Baby Carrier?
wow... I can't say I'm completely disappointed to be missing this faze in a childs growth... Caidance and Camryn will be both walking by the time they move in with us.. they are now but walking further
as for your question, i really am not sure.. i as a rule go for the most expensive but thats just because i think that you really do get what you pay for... but i have had no personal experience with any of these so I can't tell you for sure... just what i most likely would do... look for testimonials and complaints etc on yahoo answers or ask.com or another similar website perhaps?

I think I have read about some infant deaths from those sling carriers. Like the Moby. The way I understand is they are safe if you pay particular attention to the position of the baby in the sling. I would goggle first.

You're thinking of bag style sling, like this
The sling it self safe isn't dangerous, but some people have for some reason decided to press the face of a new born towards the sling, but the media blame the sling, mainly because they're a bit dim.

I agree, I had this exact sling and I didn't like the way the babies neck sat in it so I would wear it a little lopsided and then they would be in a more "laying down" position opposed to the upright position they tell you to put it in. I happened to like this one.
Kim- go with the inexpensive snugli, one that they can also face outwards in. The odds are good that after Hawaii you won't use it again. Once they can control their heads we like the Kelty backpacks.
