Default Good Parenting Tips?

What is Good Parenting?
How do we as parents inculcate good behaviours and habits?

For eg. brushing your teeth. It's a good habit and we do this without reminders. That means we are wired inside to do certain things automatically.

How can we, as parents, embed these good habits in kids? Does anyone has a book or checklist on these?

Would like to hear views from you.

I'm not sure what it means to hide sitelinks in your name, and maybe someone can fill me in on this but...

Back to the question on how we can get our kids to cultivate good habits such as brushing their teeth automatically.

It's always best to start young with kids when your trying to instill good habits. With teeth brushing, you can purchase toothpaste that is fun, colorful, and has plenty of flavor like bubble gum or green apple.

Little kids love toothpaste that appeals to their playful side. They will look forward to brushing their teeth three times a day.

Positive reinforcement goes a long way in cultivation of good habits. As Dads said....make it fun and interesting to do the things you want them to learn. I always tell my son "great job using your manners!!" when he says please, thank you, yes sir, etc. and I think it makes him feel good when I acknowledge his good behavior.

Model the behaviors that you want to see! Make it a part of the daily routine, part of everyday life. Then, when they are developmentally ready, they will internalize them and do them on their own.

Theres a book that I bought on Amamzon called -7 Skills for Parenting Success that has all that stuff in it- how to get kids to do things because they're good for them, how to know what you should really work on, what you can let go. I definitely recommend it.

Make sure they do it EVERY TIME THEY SHOULD, and catch it when they don't.

Seat belts for example, I no longer even have to check on my kids, it's automatic. They do it right away. (I still check just incase, especially if it's locked) but kids have been REALLY great about it.

If you teach them and stay on top of them DAILY...it will become part of their routine.
