Birth control and young adults
So the other day I mentioned something to my mom about a guy I used to kinda sorta date and how he was being really sweet to me again and everything and what in the world was going on because men should come with manuals because I don't get this one...lol.
Well the conversation turned to how if the chance arises that we will be back together.
Then she brought up sex, BC and condoms and I was about ready to like kick her out of my room and avoid that one LOL but she was like you know you can get free BC from clinics...and I made a smartassed remark about how it was great and I would just fly there on my magic carpet(I don't have my own car) and she said she would take me...
My mom always says I can talk to her about anything but yeah I am just not feeling that conversation at all...I just can't bring myself to do so. She'd ask questions that I wouldn't want to answer and she wouldn't trust my answers anyways...
Problem is I DO want to go on birth control. For many reason, periods suck and I am getting quite tired of 12 a year and if he and I get back together, well I would need it and I don't want to trust condoms alone, a kid now would RUIN my life, and I'm not being over dramatic, things would be over for me..
I don't know what to do. I want to take her up on her offer and go get on some birth control but at the same time, I don't want her asking questions or thinking im having sex every time I leave the house and she would too...
What should I do?

Re: Birth control and young adults
talk to her in an Adult way just as she is talking to you and tell her yes you do want to go on birth control.. it is the responsible thing to do if you plan on having sex and do not want a child

Re: Birth control and young adults
A coil (IUS/IUD) are the only forms of birth control that stop your periods, but you do have a long bleeding time when you first get them, sometimes two months! If a kid would ruin your life, you need to consider that contraception doesn't stop all babies, if you feel that strongly about not having children now, maybe you shouldn't be having sex, if you get me.
You can find out reliable information about contraception online, I know you're not in the UK but if you use NHS direct has really good and accurate information, that way you're in the know a bit before you go to the doctors, as many try to push the pill on you and nothing else.

Re: Birth control and young adults
Mmm, unfortunately the whole skipping thing dosent work for everyone with the pill. I was on it pre-children and my body just wouldnt let me skip. I wouldnt take the sugar pills and continue on with the hormone ones but nup, my body discided that it was period time. So whilst its likely you will be able to skip every second one, dont count on it, your body might have other ideas.
Meanwhile, as Jeremy said, there is more out there than just the pill, weigh up your options, some might suit you better than others. Just because its free dosent make it the best idea. I have an implanon now and it works MUCH better than the pill did, no side effects.
Also, yes, if you are having sex, still make sure you use a condom.

Re: Birth control and young adults
i completely read over the skipping a period point in your post. i just wanted to point out that although I'm sure it is not your favourite time in the month it is unhealthy for the woman's body not to have your period because it is internal cleansing of the wall of the uterus and the blood will continue to fill in there even if it doesn't drain. so it is okay to do it occasionally of course but i wouldn't suggest doing it for prolonged amounts of time because it is a necessary bodily function

Re: Birth control and young adults
Most birth control doesn't stop you from having your period, it regulates it so that it comes at the same time and whatnot. IUD doesn't stop your period either Jeremy, I know a couple of people who have that in. They still get their period. I have been told that it can make them irregular though. But please don't do that to yourself, IUD's are SO horrible for your body. They destroy your hormones and they make you gain all kinds of weight and they ruin your sex drive. Just a warning, trust me I know this. You don't want to do it.
The pill however would be alright, I don't like birth control though I should probably use it eh? Well no pregnancies yet lol but don't do that its crazy. Anyway the pill isn't so bad on your body, and it works pretty well if you use it correctly. I have heard that if you skip the placebo's then it might be possible to skip a period here and there, but like AmyBelle said even if you try sometimes your body will do what it wants to do. Its also not that healthy not to get your period. You're messing with the nature of your body, and trust me you'll notice a difference that you wont like. Oh! There is one BC that gets rid of your period, the Depo shot. But that one's a weight gainer and a hormone messer upper too but if you don't care then hey. I would rather get my period than all that though.
Anyway I don't think you really have to have a "conversation" with your mom, but I personally would be honest and ask her for help getting birth control just to stay safe. I think that will show you're responsible because she'd have to be stupid to think you'd have a boyfriend at your age and not be having sex. I don't think you have to talk to her about sex, but you should talk to her about the fact that you want to be safe and responsible and that you would appreciate her help getting birth control as long as she's not going to make you regret asking her.

Re: Birth control and young adults
OMFG the Depo shot was HELL for me! I had my period for 3 straight months, no freakin joke. I was on the pill for a while, and that worked great, but it did give me a deep vein thrombosis clot in my calf because of the estrogen, and i had to stop taking birth control all together. weigh your options, and if the pill seems like the best route then thats good, cuz u can get it for free

Re: Birth control and young adults
i think that you just need to have this conversation with your mother if she offered in the first place she obviously knows you will be having sex. and you are of consenting age I'm sure she will be glad your being honest with her

Re: Birth control and young adults
if you want to take birth control pills, you should consult a doctor. your mother isn't a doctor, ant whatever she takes -- might not be apropriate for you.

Re: Birth control and young adults
She was talking about going to a clinic, not getting BC from her mom... I'm sure there will be a doctor to talk to her at a clinic.
