Default neighbors and guns

neighbors are firing a gun out in their back yard. its 9:12 pm. they may legally do so until 11:00 pm. my kids go to bed around 8:30 pm. wife, kids and dog are scared asusual. you would be too if you saw how reckless they are. our last neighboors actually bounced an arrow off of our screen door. a bullet fired from a 357 mag by a drunken €©#♪¥® would most likely penetrate the aluminum door and enter a member of my family. sure a small part of me hopes that the dog is ....... well nevermind. the idiots next door set up their target 100 feet from my house at a 45 degree angle. i was in the military. accidents happen. i fear for my family, so much so that i called the cops once. police came out and told me that they are within their legal rights then complimented them on their structure. im all for the rights and all i just wish tge guns didnt have to be fired near my family by drunken sister daters.

lmao (at the second post)

I remember you talking about this before. That still irritates me like crazy. Do you ever try asking them to stop? Like just walking over to them in a kinda friendly kinda irritated manner and just gently mentioning "Hey, not trying to bother you guys or anything, but my kids are trying to sleep, does this really have to happen right now?" or like "hey sorry to bother you guys, but the guns shooting really scares my wife (or little girl, you pick which sounds better lol) and I was just wondering if you could shoot on the other side of the yard? I know its a pain, but it would make her feel so much better" etc.

I mean, that type of thing usually works for me, but maybe its because I'm a girl lol. I've done it a lot, because we have always lived in apartment buildings next to other people haha. I just talk to them as sweet as possible "Hi, I'm really sorry, but my baby is trying to sleep, is there any way you could be just a teeny tiny bit quieter? I'm really sorry to ask you that, I feel terrible, its just keeping him awake..." and just smile and look embarassed. lol it always works. They're always like "Oh my gosh yeah I'm so sorry we'll turn it down right now so sorry about that!!"

You know, whenever Alexander ask me about guns, I just tell him 'You don't need to get a gun, you already have one penis...'

Well, I don't really tell him that, but I think it!

I do like Xeros idea of talking to them, but it sounds like comprehension might be a bit of a barrier.

First of all, I'm kinda amazed that you live in a place where this is legal, the proximity seems a bit close. Is there nothing in the law abotu use of a firearm while drunk? Could a complaint hinge on that?

Otherwise, it seems like the only defense is to start building a sandbag wall between target and you...

God I love that song!

I would talk to them also. We live in the country and shooting your guns is fine but if they get to close to me and mine I have no problem going out and asking them to move or stop.

So, since Phil is kinda unable to get on right now...I can fill in some missing details.

His neighbors backyard buts up to the side of Phil's yard. So having them shoot elsewhere in their yard isn't going to work. If they are shooting in their yard, it's the only place they can do it.

Also, I believe Phil lives in a township where the rules are a little different than in the actual city limits. (Could be wrong about that one, but I think that's how he explained it to me).

The neighbors are complete hilljacks and don't give a crap that they're scaring their neighbors or shooting so close to where kids are playing, so dealing with them by simply asking them to stop hasn't worked.

Big quandry that Phil finds himself in....

It would be a hilly billy war if my asking didn't stop it...I know our guns are bigger then theirs .

You would still think there are laws about how close to other property they can shoot. If there aren't city ordinaces maybe state ones. I would really start doing some research.

that is just horrible and does not seem right at all. If you don't feel safe there really should be something you could do. Everyone is allowed to feel safe in there own home???

Haha I like M2M's suggestion. Get out bigger guns lol!! But for real, if they didn't listen after I asked them nicely, and the cops didn't do anything about it, I would probably yell at them. Seriously, I'd flip out. Maybe I would throw things at them. Oh, I know, I would get out my hose and spray them all with water! Or I would get out a big stereo and blast some really obnoxious music. If they can annoy the hell out of me, then I can certainly annoy the hell out of them. Even better, do it super early in the morning when they're all trying to sleep in with a hangover. Just be REALLY loud at a time that isn't illegal, but is really inconvenient (like as early as the law allows you).
