Re: Movie Talk
I spent most of my college years studying film making. After 4 years I knew I didn't want to make movies for a living. I worked on several student films, and it is a lot of hard work and can be quite boring at times. It definitely is very tough business where only the extremely talented and passionate have long careers.
I am quite happy to be working that the Evil Empire which pays me well enough that I have amassed a significant movie collection over the past 10 years.
You can see what movies we have: http://www.invelos.com/dvdcollection.aspx/nrnoble

Re: Movie Talk
That's a lot of movies, jtee! Including info and summaries... Wow!
I've found this web site to be very helpful concerning kids and movies. Generally speaking, I agree with her age recommendations.

Thanks Trina. I can only take the credit for spending way too much money on movies. The details for each movie are taken from internet sources, such as IMDB.com. I just enter the movie name, and the rest is magic
Great link!!

Re: Movie Talk
Two chick flicks that both my wife and I enjoyed
Before Sunrise http://imdb.com/title/tt0112471/
Before Sunset http://imdb.com/title/tt0381681/
Thanks for the recommendations, jtee! Just added them to our Netflix queue.

Re: Movie Talk
I considered myself a big movie buff for a long time. Recently I either haven't had the time and I just haven't been enjoying the movies I have watched all that much. Sidenote - is it just me or are movies getting crappier? Part of me thinks non-interactive entertainment is losing its luster. I just cancelled my Netflix subscription after 4 or 5 years.
But some of my favs are Apocalypse Now, 2001, 2010, Contact, The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining, Goodfellas, Almost Famous, Dazed & Confused ... too many to name I guess but those come to mind. Oh and for a chickish flick I really liked, Meet Joe Black.

I think I have all these movies except Meet Joe Black, which I have not seen. The movies you've listed all rank extremely high among movies I enjoy watching over and over. I really connected with Dazed and Confused because I experienced nearly everything that happened in that movie back when I was in the 7th-8th grade, including being chased by seniors with wooden paddles that had holes in them.
At some later time I'll post a list of some my all time favorites.

My number one all time favorite musical: Fiddler on the Roof. What a truly great movie. My only regret is that I never got to go see it when it was in the theater.
