The power of a smile
Today was a rough day.
I spent the entire day applying for jobs that I don't want and that won't pay my bills. My unemployment runs out in less than a month.
Anyway I spent all day picturing myself wearing a paper hat and asking "Do you want fries with that?"
Then my family came home and my 4 year old daughter looked at me and smiled. It didn't fix all of my problems but it gave me a break for a second.
Maybe we should all smile at each other more.

Re: The power of a smile
yeah I know how that goes.
It can work both ways though. DD's smile could mean she just flushed my watch down the toilet.

Re: The power of a smile
I'll settle for the illusion that the smile means "my daddy is the bestest daddy in the entire world!"
Even if I do find out later that it meant something else.

Re: The power of a smile
I agree Phil, a smile or a hug from your child has such therapeutic value. Just try to keep thinking about her, it'll keep you going. And know that we're thinking good thoughts for you too. If you keep chipping away at the little things, eventually there won'tt be any big things. I know you can do it.

Re: The power of a smile
My kids smiles are amazing! It is what get's me through the day, they can be fighting like cat's and dogs and then they will make me lunch and smile while they serve it to me. Doesn't matter that the salad has enough dressing for 5 people, or that the chicken is still ice cold, the only thing that matters is it made them happy. So I force the salad down and eat my chicken and know that them trying to make me happy made them happy!
My thoughts are with you Phil, we are having financial problems also and it is rough. Good Luck!

Re: The power of a smile
My job can be very hectic and demanding like a lot of jobs. I keep a picture of my son taped to my computer at work. Whenever I want to quit, I just look over at his picture and think to myself "he's depending on me". Works every time.

Keep fighting the good fight phil!!! I hear ya with the financial issues....and with Peter being in bankruptcy it makes it harder, cuz we can only bring in a certain amount of money per month. When I think things cant get worse, I try and remember....there is always someone in the world that has it way worse then we do. And the smiles and giggles from Hayleigh help too! Good luck phil! xox

Re: The power of a smile
Oh yes! I've beed through a pretty rough two weeks. I was unable to see my DD for a few days, and when she walked into the room for the first time again, with a smile on her face that says that I'm her daddy and right now seeing me is the best thing that could possibly happen to her... Well, like Phil said, it gives you a break... it makes life seem less scary for a moment... it makes me feel a little bit as powerful as she believes me to be... I don't know what I would have done without my litte girl
