Weight off my shoulders....
...well, that must be where I'm losing it 'cuz my gut doesn't seem to be shrinking yet..
A couple weeks ago, I posted about trying to lose some weight, eat and exercise better, and some of you commented that you'd like to do the same, so I thought I'd open a thread to talk about weight, share my progress and hoepfully get some comment and discussion going.
So, I've lost about 4 pounds since July 4th, which is not phenominal news, I'm sure I could drop more quicker, but I am excited that I'm losing it by being sensible. I've largely changed my breakfast and lunch habits. I used to rarely eat breakfast. Now, I'm having either yogurt and whole grain cereal or fruit every morning. I'm still having my coffee, but trying to add more water to the mix, and having my vitamins every morning. I've also decided that lunch doesn't have to be exciting, it's just the tool to fuel my body and get me to the evening without feeling like I need to eat a freezer full of food. So, I have a peanut butter sandwich, and whatever fruit and or veggies we have on hand. It's easy to grab in the AM and easy to deal with at work. Now, my challenge is to scale back dinner a bit. I'm still in bad habits about eating a large meal, and also about snacking late, so I'm working on scaling back the meal size, especially the meat component and staying strong on not snacking late. When I let those flood-gates open, I tend to really pig out.
So, I like my approach so far - I think it's the kind of thing I can maintain long-term and the weight will come off the same way it went on, a few onces at a time. I really need to get up and get moving more, I'm supposed to do a 5k with DS1 on labor day weekend. We don't have to run the whole thing, but I'd like to be able to at least jog most of it.
I'm going to try to post a video I saw on youtube yesterday. It explains chemically, why diet soda doesn't work and what's wrong with our typical american diet...I'm not 110% sure of the science, but it seems to make some sense. Maybe our biology and chemistry minded folks can chime in with their thoughts. At the very least it is an entertaining presentation.

Okay, I can't seem to embed it, not sure what I'm doing wrong, maybe someone can help me. But anyway, the link is just informative, isn't selling anything, so have a look, tell me what you think.

Re: Weight off my shoulders....
Interesting! Yeah, I never agreed with diet pop either, I always figured if you were worried about your drinks causing you to gain weight or if you were dieting or whatever you should just drink WATER lol. Flavored water, even. But not Propel, because it actually has calories where regular plain flavored water does not.
Anyway, that's good you're taking care of yourself! I've been trying to eat healthier lately too, but mostly because I feel like eating junk all the time is killing my body lol. I feel better and have more energy when I eat right.
