Wedding Planning
As most of you know , i am getting married to my fiance in 2011. We haven`t planned a specific date but we are thinking about spring/summer time.
Me and my Fiance (his name is Daniel btw) are both planning specific parts of the wedding and we will both decide things together. That is how I did things with my first husband and that is how i will do things with him.
We haven`t made any major decisions , but we are shaping up ideas.
Last night i saw him looking at wedding dresses for me on the internet and i found it quite cute. Didn`t suit my taste though lol
I know what my daughters bridesmaid`s colours will be...Red.
I just want to know if anyone would share stories of wedding planning because planning my first wedding was quite exhausting but all paid off in the end.
Also this will be the first time i go dress shopping. My first wedding , i wore my husband`s mothers dress. The reason for this is because my husband didn`t like the dress i picked originaly and suggested that i wear his mothers. I liked it a lot more and chose that dress. But the dress has been given to my husband`s sister who will give it to her oldest daughter who is getting married in January.
I would like to hear if you planned your wedding or your experiences of weddings.
Thanks.

Re: Wedding Planning
My wife and I were engaged for a year nd a half before the actual wedding. I was in the Military and deployed a lot during that time period.
Vic made most of the arrangements with her mother which was fine because the details did not matter to me. All I wanted was to be able to have a casual reception in a casual atmosphere where we could affordably invite a ton of people and have a party.
During my last deployment she sent me a lot of pictures and detail in letters and from time to time I could call home.
Then when I got out of the military roughly 5 months before the wedding I had to find a job and totally gut my house and restore much of it as the people that I rented too destroyed most of the interior. They WERE friends of the family. I was focused more on the house stuff while Vic made the final arrangements on the wedding.
At least I was finally able to see much of what she decided on. About the only thing that I did pick out was my tux.
It was a beautiful wedding! There were some minor unavoidable problems but all in all everything went well.
It's not that I didn't care about the wedding as much as I just don't see the need for all of the expense. We got married in the Cathedral where much of my wife's family got married so that made sense. The most important thing to me is that we were getting married. Everything else was just extra.

Re: Wedding Planning
i feel it is only fair that we make decisions together. I don`t want to manipulate decisions and him to manipulate decisions. We will decide things fairly. We are already talking about the venue and we have different ideas lol
This may be fun but hard work.

Re: Wedding Planning
Here it isn't about the wedding (unless the couple live in mobile/modular homes, type Missy King Wedding in to google images!) it is about the marriage, so British weddings tend to have very little planning, of course there are still the occasional egotistical marriage, but they are few and far between.
You still have to book a venue about a year in advance though, for the reception mainly, as they are used for various different events throughout the year.
Oh, tea is ready, fill in the rest later!

Re: Wedding Planning
I got married 20 years ago and barely remember the details. I know the hubby left it all up to me (I was 18 he was 19) he really didn't care all that much. He did help pick flowers and the cake, and the only reason he helped with the cake was because he was afraid I would pick some weird combination .
I did find a great all in one place, and that made it so much easier for me, of course at 18 I had no real clue where to even begin. They could do it all but a few things we did on our own. I had the dress made in downtown L.A, it was much cheaper and I had a much bigger say in how it looked, looking back they dress was ugly but I loved it at the time. The cake we went to a very popular bakery that my family had been using since childhood. I think those are the only things everything else was provided buy the wedding place.
What I discovered the day we were married is that my mom and dad got married there. I wasn't talking to my mom when we were married but I did invite her and that is when she had told me. I always assumed they had a garden wedding from their pictures...I was wrong.

Re: Wedding Planning
We are thinking of having a church wedding because my fiance is quite religious (i am not sadly). He also wants to help me pick my wedding dress. I don`t mind that but in the end i want to make the decision. I don`t want him manipulating or influencing me to pick a dress i am not crazy about.

Re: Wedding Planning
My hubby and I had 8 months between our engagement and wedding day. We both wanted to get married just after christmas, so we picked Jan 3, 2009. It was -19celcius..lol. Anywho. We picked a venue that did in house catering and we had both our wedding ceremony and reception there. It worked out great. We got our cake from a local bakery, 3 tiers of alternating chocolate and white cake. One layer was Orange and white chocolate filling (with some sort of booze haha), one layer was chocolate raspberry (with once again, booze haha) and the top tier was strawberry and vanilla without liquor. It was sooooo amazing. Our wedding planning was very low stress, the only thing i pushed was the color of petes vest and tie, I wanted it to match the embrodery on my dress haha. so he was stuck wearing a light lavender vest and tie, and an ivory shirt. it looked very smart.
Hope all your wedding planning goes really well!!!
