My Grandma
On September 1st, my 84 year old grandmother passed away in the hospital. She had gone in for a bypass surgery on a vein in her leg, and after that she went downhill. Soon she was disoriented and forgetfull, couldn't remember who hayleigh was (she kept saying "this little girl named heather came in to visit me today") and didnt even know who my dad was anymore. pretty soon she stopped eating and was sleeping all day. the nurses took her off of her IV, and just kept her on a light pain killer, and a few days later she passed in her sleep. to top it off, that morning my mom and dad were there visiting her, and some young kid was mouthing off to the nurses saying they dont f*ing doing anything, they are all stupid and blah blah blah. my mom nicely said to him "look, the nurses are here to help, its not very nice to be swearing at them. maybe you should go outside and cool off a bit" and the guy proceeded to yell right in my moms face telling her to eff off. (this was in the elevator by that point). thats when my dad slugged the guy in the face. and the guy proceeded to punch my dad square between the eyes breaking glass from his glasses into his eyebrow and giving him the hugest purple black eye ive ever seen. so after that was broken up, the cops came and said my dad might be charged with assault and go to jail. my dad told him, "look, i know i shouldnt have done that, but im not gonna let anyone talk to my wife like that and get away with it". my dad is lucky the punk didnt press charges. so on top of his mom dying, he got into a fistfight. not a good week for them at all.
So her funeral is on tuesday, and im not looking forward to it (like anyone would anyways). i just wanna get thru the funeral, and get myself ready for Surrey (its a suburb of vancouver) and start getting our life on track. Ugh, what a week.....

Re: My Grandma
I am sorry about your grandma, and sorry that some punk felt the need to start trouble.

Re: My Grandma
I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. I am thinking about you and your family. Death is such a funny thing...it happens to all of us, but it is so hard to cope with.
Wishing you all strength in the days to come. And hoping grandma is at peace.

Re: My Grandma
Sorry to hear of your loss and the chaos Michele.
You know if Hayleigh had been with them your mom would have probably just skirted her away rather than confront the guy, I think parents and grand parents usually go into protect mode in situations like that.
Yeah, your dad's lucky he didn't press charges, but on the other hand, I'd kind of liked to have seen how that would have played out in front of a judge....I think a judge would be pretty simpathetic to your dad, he really was just trying to do the right thing by your mom.

Re: My Grandma
so true IADad. Today was the funeral, and what a tough and emotional day it was. I cried harder then I ever have I think. Pete and I are gonna go out to dinner to try and just relax, then have a visit with his parents. The circle of life continues..... Now I just have to get my stuff together for sunday....

Death is the worse. As you already know, it takes time.
