So not TTC
Okay, so i wasn't sure where to post this, BUT....DW is late. First of all it's really wierd, she's been on a very regular schedule, even a little short most months, so to be lat at all is very odd. We should be used to this because up until kids her periods were very irregular. But we've gottne used to the regular nature of them over recent years.
So, the other thing is I've been snipped, so this really just can't be...I mean there are only a couple of thing that could be at work if she does end up being pregnant, right?
1) I've had a re-attachement occur. They said it does happen in an infentisimally small number of cases.
2) Um honey, we need to talk about the company you've been keeping or
3) Call the vatican, we got a miracle on our hands.
I'm thinking about popping over to my urologist's office, and getting a sample checked, just to rule out that possibility. Think I'm overreacting? It just seems like I should be doing something.....

Re: So not TTC
1) gave us Jake and he is like the naughtiest child ever....
How old is your wife? If she is a similar age to you she may be entering the menopause, then there are things like stress, which could delay her further if she is stressed about the thought of being pregnant.
Is she on a diet or anything? dieting can effect your cycle and of course things such as an iron deficiency can reduce the amount of lining that develops.
Are you late enough for a pregnancy test?
I waited until after we had a positive result to put my 'stuff' in a cup, there was no way I was going to do that voluntarily.
Also don't mention 2) otherwise pretty soon you wont have testicles at all.
If you're not pregnant it might still be wise for you to get tested, that way you two wont be worrying about this so much in the future, temping so you know when your wife is ovulating is pretty good as well.
Obviously, congratulations if you are pregnant!

Re: So not TTC
I would just wait it out.
As Jeremy mentioned, it might not hurt to re-check #1, but honestly, even if you were to do THAT, I would make sure you make sure DW knows exactly why you're going (this "scare" made you wonder about re-attachment and you want to double-check), so she doesn't think, "DH doesn't trust me."
Depending on DW's personality, even that could be risky/potentially hurtful. So, I still think I'd err on the side of wait and see.
Frankly, if it were #2, I rather doubt she'd be in such a hurry to tell you that she's late...
Exactly how late is she?
Good luck!

Re: So not TTC
Thanks guys.
Not exactly sure how late she is, it's not like we have a reason to keep track these days, it's more of a "shouldn't you have gotten a visit by now...." kinda thing.
She says her breasts are tender, so we're really expecting something any day now...It's so funn, 9 or 10 years ago, we wouldn't have given it much thought, she'd routinely go 45 days one month 30 the next, you couldn't count on anything and we didn't stress about it. Now, that we really really don't want another, and she's been in a more regular pattern, it's more of a big deal.
Yes, DW is just a bit younger than me, and funky hormonal things have been happening over the last couple of years, so it could be "the change' coming...
I just think it wouldn't hurt to go get #1 checked, and yes Steve, we've talked about that as a possibility and she mentioned that my urologist would have a lot of explaining to do, and I reminded her of the slight risk of re-attachment...so that topic is "out there." but good reminder not to just snesak off and do it without talking.
I'd never heard of anyone really having reattachment occur until now Jeremy...I always thought it was one of those medical statistics that was skewed by some dr not doing something right... I may go get it checked out just to be sure everything's good there.
and very good point Steve that she'd not want to bring it up if it was #2...I hadn't thought about that.
Nobody have any specualtion about reason #3 though...?

Re: So not TTC
In 0.025 of cases the tubes reattach within the first year after surgery, and these are the ones who pass both of their sample tests, after a year failure rates aren't recorded, which seems pretty standard with any contraception doesn't it.
Nah to number three, anyway the Pope will think you have succumb to the devil for having sex for pleasure and having the snip!
Also most likely nah to number two as well though.
If she wants she can get tested to see if she is entering the change, that way if she is she could think about doing things slightly differently e.g. diet concerning bone density etc.

Re: So not TTC
I guess I hadn't really thoght about testing for menopause, just kind of thought "it happened" Good point.
so, is that 2.5 % or .025%...? I don't think I was ever given a statistic, just told it was very low....

Re: So not TTC
oops, sorry I forgot the percentage sign, yeh 0.025%, when I had it done I had the statistic super drilled in loads.
Menopause, you can use the tabs to symptoms etc. We routinely test for the menopause here when you hit a certain age as it effects certain caners.

Re: So not TTC
I think your #1 step would be to swing by the drug store and pick up a pregnancy test. If it's been long enough to wonder where the monthly visit is, then you should be able to get an accurate test. Depending on the results, then proceed to A. Figure out why the period hasn't arrived, or B. Figure out how it happened that you are now expecting. What a surprise that would be!!! You can check to see if you still have some strong swimmers.
It wouldn't be too uncommon to have a pre menopausal thing happening. For some women, they start going through it around 40, others much later. I once had a professor that went through "the change" at 41. She was a FAMILY STUDIES professor that was so into her career that she delayed her own family (which she desperately wanted) until she was 40. She had her first child, started trying for the second, figured she was pregnant again, and found out she was in menopause. What a pisser! She was a very bitter woman. You would think her master degree would have given her the knowledge that this sort of thing can happen.

Re: So not TTC
there are so many things that can throw off a womans cycle, even really regular ones.
Go get the preg test, and put your mind at easy.
And good luck either way.
