Buying a car
Last Friday my husband got into a car accident. THANKFULLY he was fine, but the car wasn't. We're really bummed, because the car was super nice, ran great, and was very dependable.
It was a single car accident. A school bus stopped fast with little to no warning. There were 3 cars behind it. My husband was coming up over a small hill, he was starting down the hill when the bus stopped. He put on his brakes <he wasn't going very fast at all>. He said the car started to slide sideways, and flipped in the middle of the road! He didn't hit anything or anyone. And thankfully because the bus had stopped and put up his stop sign, no traffic had been coming from the opposite direction....THANK GOD! It could have been really bad otherwise.
So, now that we're calming down from that scare. We have to go car hunting.
We just moved 3 weeks ago tomorrow, and still trying to get settled, and well, everything is just really a mess right now! The last thing we needed was for this to happen.
I have NO clue what kind of car we should get. We had a Toyota Camry. But finding something just like we had well, very slim odds because we got a real 'steal' on that car <we are getting back MORE from insurance than what we paid for the car 3 years ago! So yeah...we got a steal on it>.
I told hubby I'd like to have something BIG but good on gas. Today I have 2 cars I'd like to look at, both are 2002. A Ford Focus wagon and a Mercury Sable Wagon. I REALLY liked the pictures and description of the Mercury. Anyone own one?
ANyone recommend a model? I'd love to have a wagon, especially if they have an extra seat in the very back.

Re: Buying a car
get the sable. i have a taurus which is the same thing and it is very reliable, (mine not so much right now but will be fixed soon) and extremely safe. and if it has the 24valve DOHC then its got plenty of power with decent gas mileage for a larger-than-most midsize car. also very roomy, backed by a great reputation. the focus is not so big, albeit a good car. if you have any ?s about these let me know ill be more than happy to help, as aparently im the resident car guy LOL

Re: Buying a car
Personally, I buy Japanese cars exclusively. You pay a premium, but there is no limit to how many miles you can put on a Honda Civic, and they run great and look great too! It would be a cold day in hell before id buy anything American (cars that is, we do have the best airplanes)!

Re: Buying a car
I highly recommend Toyotas and Hondas. I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna AWD and LOVE it! We bought it new and haven't had any problems with it whatsoever, only regular maintenance. In fact, I can say that about all the Hondas and Toyotas we've owned.
Glad to hear your DH is OK! Did he have any car seats or boosters in his car? If so, they need to be replaced. Ask your insurance company about reimbursement.
