naughty kids = coal?
Does this happen to you? You tell your kids that they are going to sit on Santa’s lap next week, and they turn into little angels. You don't have to nag them to wash their hands before they eat dinner, they always brush her teeth until they are sparkly clean, and they don't talk back. However, after your annual trip to the mall, they turn back into their normal little selves?
Every year this happens to me, and every year I've been giving them longer and longer warning for going to the mall. At first, I would tell them a couple days in advance, but now I'm reminding them in November about going to the mall to see Santa Claus in mid-December.
I told a friend about this, and she laughed at me and told me that her kids do the same thing, so I was happy to find out that it's not just my kids. I told her that I wish there was something I could do, and she told me that for her it was worth it to see Santa more than once. She said that she takes her two kids to sit on Santa’s lap at the mall to get their picture taken. Then she arranges to have Santa call them on Christmas Eve just to check up on them. She makes sure that her kids know that if they are naughty at any time she will tell Santa and they might just get that lump of coal in their stockings instead of presents. I asked her to share her secret, and she said she uses
Maybe that's the way to go. If having a couple extra weeks of well-behaved children is only going to cost me the cost of this telephone call, why wouldn’t I do it?

Re: naughty kids = coal?
Thats pretty funny. My parents were never that elaborate. Mom always told us if we weren't good Santa would leave us rocks and oranges . So in my early teens I got a stocking full of oranges. Then Christmas day I opened a box full of rocks. Cleverly hidden in the rocks was a new watch. Mom always said she wanted to trade me in between 13 and 20. I would have to agree.

Santa emails the girls and makes sure they have been good.

Re: naughty kids = coal?
Yesterday our son brought home some art he made at Preschool, and my wife loved it and wanted to take it to work. For some reason, he didn't want her to, and said she already takes too many things he makes to work. :-P Of course he doesn't even look at his art at home...he just didn't want her to have this...weird.
So when wifey went away, I was trying to explain to him that sharing is good, and he could really make mom happy if he let her take it. Nope. I tried a few more angles to no avail.
Finally, I was like "Well you could really get on Santa's good list if you let mom have your art". He came back with a bunch of junk art from school like letter and number tracings, and said "well she can have these!" Doh!
