Default Are parents being more lenient these days?

I have heard that parents are becoming more lenient in today's times. I see them acting more as a friend and not as a parent. I see them giving in to their childs demands too often and then wonder why kids dont listen to them and get out of control. Are parents becoming more lenient? Has it always been this way? Are parents taking more abuse from children now days? Are you taking the same approach to parenting as your parents? Are you more strict? Less strict?

I think that yes some have. From what i see though personally, many are starting to become more strict. But that is just a personal evaluation

There have always been parents who were lenient and parents who were strict. Naturally, children who grew up in a strict environment are probably raising their children less strictly, and perhaps vice versa. It only makes sense. My parents weren't very strict but we were taught early on the importance of respect. There is a medium and that's how I plan on raising my son.

I feel that I am more strict than most parents today but I am not overly strict or demanding. My kids respect me. I am a nice Mommie or a fun Mommie (sometimes when they are sent to the naughty chair a mean Mommie LOL.) The important thing is while they know I will always listen and love them no matter what I am their Mom not their buddy. You can have a good relationship with your kids and not try to be friends rather than parents.

Honestly I think alot of parents are too busy with career and adult crap to really put the time and effort it takes to raise your kids right. Here lately I've seen a handfull of teenagers using the f word around their parents. I would have been picking myself up off the floor. Like someone else mentioned it seems that some parents are trying to be their kids buddy. Kids have enough friends but only two parents(usually). I'm a firm believer that kids like to be told no. No you cant stay out till 3am, no you cant wear a bikini to school, no you can not talk like that in front of me. We say no to protect our kids. We protect what we love.

We were on the bus and some kid was just sassing his mom and she was just saying, "Johnny we don't use those words." when he'd say "Shut the f up b." Josephine was wide eyed and said, "Mommie I think if I talked to you like that you might spank me." She's probably right.

Being a parent is tough. And it is good to find a medium. Respect your kids and they will respect you back. Do not be too lenient or they will take you as a joke. Do not be too strict or they will either rebel or grow to hate you.
